Make it a junk journal, but for nature. Hi friends, it’s Carola and in this post, I’m going to show you how to start a nature journal. I’ve been trying to get into the junk journal trend, but instead of collecting paper ephemera, I’m drawn to natural tactile materials. So if you’re like me and enjoy collecting leaves, flowers, feathers, and other textural things found on a walk, this is a great way to journal with them. Read on if you’re interested in creating a nature journal.
Supplies Used:
- MONO Air Power Adhesive Applicator
- Tombow Xtreme Project Tape
- Fudenosuke Brush Pen, Soft Tip, Black
- Natural materials (moss, bark, leaves, flowers, feathers)
Creating a cover page for your nature journal:
Step 1: Select outdoor materials and adhere them to your cover. To glue bulky pieces of bark, I used the Tombow Xtreme Project Tape to make sure it sticks to the journal cover. Cut off a strip that’s long enough to span the cover, stick it down, and peel the backing.
Step 2: Cut a scrap piece of paper and using a Fudenosuke Brush Pen, hand letter the title “Nature Journal” (or call it whatever you like). The MONO Air Power Adhesive Applicator works great for adhering paper, so I used it to glue the title onto the journal.
Optional: If you have delicate items such as feathers, I like using decorative washi tape to keep them in place.
Creating a Nature Journal spread:
Now that you have a cover for your journal, it’s time to fill it with spreads. I’m going to document walks and hikes where I find interesting materials such as flowers and plants. For my first spread, I’m including the date, location, and a brief description. Using scrap paper, I cut out a frame and created a border around pressed flowers. Include the name of the flowers in a caption for future reference.
