Posts from ‘Albums’

This is a very long post, so go get some tea, coffee, Coke and a snack and then come back to read. Ü

This fun album is made by altering a children’s board book. You can pick these up for just a few cents at a Goodwill store, but this one was purchased new for $1 at Dollar General. I just cut along the spine with my rotary cutter and mat. I was able to get two albums from one book.

After cutting the pages to the same size, I punched holes on one side with my Crop a dile. This tool is great for chipboard this thick.

Then I just cut patterned paper to the size of the page and adhered to the book “page” with Tombow’s Mono Adhesive Power Bond. This adhesive is perfect for this project! I used Tombow’s Mono Adhesive Permanent to adhere all other pieces together on the pages.

I designed a boy and girl album. Here is the front to the girl album. The “g” was cut from my computer and the other letters are cut with Sizzlets dies. The paper is some I picked up at Target long ago. To hold my album together I used O rings and then tied lots of ribbon to the rings.

The following pictures are of the pages inside the album.

For the back I just covered with the argyle pattern.

Now here is the boy version.

see the tear drop on this page? It’s a guitar pick (that they use to play the guitar so their fingers don’t get sore). Anyway I saw some in a marked down bin one time and got them for a few cents. I covered on with paper and they make a fun accent to a page.

WHEW! I told you this was a long post. I hope this has inspired you to go and buy a board book (or maybe use one you have laying around the house that the kiddos have outgrown) and alter it. If you do, I would love to see it.

Hi there!  Happy Friday to you all!

Today I am sharing a little flip book that I made.  I used papers from the Basic Grey Sweet Threads Line.

This little book has several pages that have adorable little flip tabs perfect for journaling.

The book was bound using a Bind it All.

I used Tombow Glue stick to attach the paper to the chipboard covers.

Adhere print paper to pages using Tombow Mono Dots Adhesive.

I used Tombow Mono Aqua to adhere the delicate leaves die cuts to the front of the book. I love that the Aqua adhesive has two different sized tips, the pen tip is perfect for putting adhesive on the small areas of the leaves and stems.

You can find complete instructions for making this Flip Book in the resources section at Splitcoaststampers.

Thanks for stopping by ~ Melissa :)

Have you heard of the Smoosh book rage by K & Co? It’s not a new concept, but a twist on an old one. It’s basically a journal book that you fill with pictures, memories, thoughts, etc. I had one when I was younger and I’m sure alot of you did also.

Rather than buy one, I decided to use the CarlaCraft Binder and make my own. If you don’t have a binding system, you could punch 3 holes in the side and attach with “D” rings or ribbon. (you can click on any of the images to get a better view)

To make my version of a “smoosh” book, I cut the fronts and back from very thin chipboard (cereal boxes work great for this) 6″ x 9″ and embossed cardstock to cover the front and back. Be sure to punch your holes before adhering the cardstock to the chipboard or it will be too thick (ask me how I know Ü).

I then used Tombow’s Stamp Runner Permanent Adhesive to adhere the cardstock to the chipboard. After that I just decorated the front using Cosmo Cricket cutouts, Basic Grey alphabet stickers and buttons,  and a stamped Inky Antic image called Raincoat Lucy.

Then it’s just a matter of what kind of papers you want inside. I used several Cosmo Cricket pieces and then found solids and other patterns that matched and cut them all 5.5″ x 8.5″. I have 15 pages, plus journal pieces from the Cosmo Cricket pkt I had and a couple of envelopes that I can put receipts or other memos in.

Coil all the pages together and you have your own Smoosh journal, junk journal, or whatever you want to call it.

Here is a peek at the inside cover:

I added a library pocket and journaled on a library card a little bit about what a smoosh book was and what I planned to do. Then I will just add things that catch my attention (like maybe pictures from a magazine, a recipe, etc) or things I think of until it is full. I am really excited to fill this “Debbie-smoosh” book up.

Here are the rest of the pages in my book if  you are interested.

I hope you enjoyed this book. I realize it may be kinda boring with all the blank pages, but I will share my pages along the way as I fill them up.

It’s not an easy task to design an album for a boy, but even harder is an album for a teenager or young adult. Teresa Collins’ new “On the Edge” collectionis perfect for this task, and it’s made easier with the wide range of embelishments and paper designs.

Teresa Collins, On the Edge Collection; Decorative double-sided papers, decorative brads, chipboard & die-cut elements, trim and album covers

Tombow, Dot Adhesive Stamp Runner, Foam Tabs, Tombow Correction Tape

Details on the cover include; white distressed boarders created with correction tape. Simply apply the correction tape to the edges and then scratch and distress with an art knife.

The pages are created with one 4” x 4” photo per page. They all use the same basic layout with a variety of ‘On the Edge‘ embellishments. I especially loved the ‘On the Edge Words’ paper that provided the headings for each page. The paper layers and photographs are attached using the Dot Adhesive Stamp Runner. Many of the embellishments are attached using the Foam Tabs to create dimention. The Foam Tabs are a strong adhesibve that will not crush down flat.

Happy Crafting ~

I was inspired by Penny Black’s Sparkle’ stamp of a single flower. Perfect for a quick inking with the Tombow Dual Brush Pens and layering for a dimensional look with the Foam Tabs. I also used Penny Black’s new ‘Mix and Match’ papers to easily coordinate the look all together. The pencil is not only an interesting embellishment; it also is easily removed for a quick sketch as it is attached using the Fastener Tabs.

Materials: Penny Black ~Stamps: Sparkle, Letter background and ‘The Thought of You’ Fern Green papers from the ‘Mix and Match’ collection.

Tombow ~Dual Brush Pens: 133 chartreuse, 098 avocado, 249 hunter green, 451 sky blue, 526 true blue, 665 purple, 636 imperial purple. Adhesives: Permanent Stamp Runner, MONO Multi Liquid Glue, Fastener Tabs and Foam Tabs

You will also need: 5 1/4” x 8 1/4” sketchbook, 90 lb. smooth finish watercolor paper, matching ribbon and trim, drawing pencil, clear flat marble and a mini black clip.

Ink the ‘Sparkle’ stamp with the brush tip, start with the light colors first, and then add the medium and dark tones. The leaves are colored with the green markers, the flower with the blues and the flower center with the purples. Mist the colored stamp with water at arm’s length away and stamp onto a watercolor paper panel. Do two stampings of the flower with this technique. Let dry.Color the letter background stamp with the Imperial Purple marker and stamp directly onto a light green paper panel without misting. Edge the panel with the Avocado marker. Color ‘The Thought of You’ stamp with Imperial Purple and Hunter Green markers and stamp directly onto a watercolor paper panel without misting. Edge the panel with the Avocado marker.

Prepare the cover by adhering the dark green paper around the spine, medium green panel to cover the front, and the light green stamped panel with the Permanent Adhesive.  Use Multi glue to add ribbon and trim along the left hand side of the front cover.

Cut out one of the stamped flower images leaving a slight edge.  Cut out leaves and petals from second stamped flower image. Try to keep the petals in order on your work surface so it’s easy to match them up.

Prepare the verse panel by adhering to a dark green panel with the Permanent Adhesive. Add brads in the corners and attach the completed panel to the cover using the large foam tabs. Using the Permanent Adhesive and the ‘stamp’ feature, attach the extra leaves under the raised verse panel and the flower image at the top of the raised panel. I used 5 of the 8 petals on the flower, choosing the ones that are in the front and most of the whole petal showing. Slightly curl the petals in your hands to give them a little dimension. Attach the petals by adding a small amount of Permanent Adhesive to the tip of the petal and place into the same position on the flower. Use a small Foam Tab under these petals to lift and give dimension. A pair of tweezers makes it easy to lift and place the tab.

The Tombow MONO Drawing Pencil is attached with two Fastener Tabs that have been trimmed. It holds the pencil on the front of the sketchbook so it’s always handy for quick sketch of a flower in the garden.

I loved the natural kraft look of jillibean soup’s  ‘talk soup on kraft’ collection.

Along with matching embellishments it was a breeze to create an album with TOMBOW adhesives and fill with matching pages. The sturdy wooden album cover is from Walnut Hollow and will protect treasured photos as children delight in them over and over.

Cover the album with decorative paper from jillibean soup’s ‘talk soup on kraft’ collection. I ripped large pieces of paper to cover and create the forest landscape. Make the pieces large enough to have a slight 1/4” overhang. Cover the entire back of the paper pieces with MONO Aqua Liquid Glue using the broad applicator. Press them into place with a bone folder for a secure adhesion with no wrinkles.

When dry, use a sanding block to ‘cut’ the excess paper away by sanding at a 45 angle. This creates a perfect flush finish to the edges of the album.

Additional paper pieces, such as the ‘journaling sprouts’ use the Aqua glue to attach. Use MONO Multi Liquid Glue and TOMBOW”s Foam Tabs to attach the embellishments. For the canvas, ribbon and corrugated pieces that will lay flat use the Multi glue. For any lettering or embellishments that you want to ‘pop’, use the Foam Tabs. The Foam Tabs come in two sizes; large 1/2” and small 1/4”, use the size that works best for your chosen piece.

The ribbon is tied to the spine piece before assembling the album.

The matching pages for the album are constructed using TOMBOW’s new Dot Stamp Runner. Apply the adhesive in long strips to large paper panels and photographs and small ‘stamped’ squares of adhesive for the smaller embellishments with the same the same tool.

See how well the Tombow Stamp Runner, which serves a dual purpose as a stamper, hold these embellishments.

spring is here!
january, february…i have the winter blues for sure.

but bring in the end of march and the beginning of april and i am one happy girl.
love to be outside, love the sunshine, love the baseball (upcoming project on that one soon), and spring cleaning.

so, that got me thinking about all the pictures i have of my home. clean, messy, decorated, etc.

i wanted a place to put all those pictures without doing a full album. (i have so many other pictures i want to work with, pictures of the home are low on the priority list.) but still, a place to put them, get them out of the stack…

i found doodlebug’s “hometown collection” and fell in love. the bright spring colors and whimsical die cut embellishments were exactly what i wanted to go with my plethora of pictures of my home.

i had a clipboard shaped as a house and an empty 4×6 photo album (this one was from Franklin Covey years ago).

i made the clipboard first, then decided that a place for all those “home” pictures was in order…

and here is what i came up with.

i used Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue to put the paper to the wood clipboard. the die cut “love our home” was put on with Tombow Foam Tabs, and all edges of the paper and embellishments were inked with a combination of a brown ink pad and a Tombow Dual Brush Pen – they are perfect for getting in the little creases of the die cuts.

in the photo album i created the first two pages. on these pages i used the Tombow Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive to put the 4×6 pages together and did a little sewing, using the Stamper to add a “bandaid” to the back holding the loose threads in place.

is it cliche to say that i love my family…. and they are who i love creating for?

well, it is true. i love the anticipation of creating something and hoping that they are going to love it. i love taking the time to create handmade projects. i love putting myself into something for someone else.
here are some i’ve posted on the blog – christmas ornament, christmas traditions scrapbook, recipe scrapbook, and the framed daddy decor.

i love the line from the chorus of “you spin me round” – right round baby right round, like a record baby, right round, round round!

that is how i feel about my family, they spin me… spin my world…and mostly in good ways. (we all have our moments!)

when i take pictures i start to scrapbook them in my head. i contemplate color schemes and whether i’ll use them on a layout or altered piece or create a mini book to show them off.  last fall we visited the pumpkin patch. i was so anxious to scrapbook with my pictures that i created a circle album. i couldn’t wait til all the pictures were printed so i grabbed a few pictures and kept it simple.

these three people are the most important things in my life.

let’s keep on spinning!

gather your adhesive. and to answer your question, yes, i used each of these. i’ll explain…

gather anyhing you think you might want to use. my theme was “you spin me” so i gathered any tools or embellishments that were circular.

here is the title page.

circles cut with the creative memories circle cutting system. lettering is hand cut from an old EK Success lettering template. each letter is also “inked” by using a Tombow Dual Brush Pen N15 (black). the brush tip is great for getting in the little corners of the small letters.

i cut large circles from several pieces of paper, cardstock and patterns and glued them back-to-back with the Tombow MONO Multi Glue. it adds stability to the pages.

i used the Tombow MONO Glue Pen to attach the letters and small embellishments. and Tombow MONO Permanent runner to add the paper embellishments and Tombow MONO Adhesive Dots Roller to glue down the pictures.  my reason for this would be because i am indecisive and i like the ability to move my pictures around til i get it just right.

this page is glued to the back of the title page – pattern paper to cardstock. it holds up really well, and the glue doesn’t get the papers too wet, therefore – no warping!

my son’s page – name, pictures and a few embellishments
here is my daughter’s side – again, name, pictures and embellishments

on this page i wanted to use the conchos, but because that pages are back-to-back i didn’t want to set them all the way through. (that would be a little unsightly on the back). so i cut off the prongs that wouldn’t be going though paper (much like i did here with the back of a brad) and used the glue pen to hold them in place. the conchos go through the green paper strip, but the other sides have a bit of glue under them to keep them from sliding.

here i am using the glue pen on the letters. so easy and fast. and because the formula in the glue pen does not adhere to your skin, when picking up little letters to put them on your project they will not stick to you! the glue flows pretty easily, just push the roller ball in by putting the tip on your project and applying pressure. when the glue starts to flow trace around your letter (embellishment).

how about a button? yup, the glue pen works on that too!

while we are talking about love…

my love for tombow was sealed with the introduction of the glue pen. don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t that i didn’t love the other adhesives before, but the glue pen just sent my heart a-flutter! so many uses. so many projects. so versatile!

however, we all know that i really do love the adhesive dots too,  so much that i carry them around with me.

can a girl love two adhesives at the same time? leave a comment today and later this week Joanna will pick winners to receive a fun package of everything the design team loves!

with this huge snow storm coming it sounds like a lot of you might be snowed in this weekend so we thought we’d post a fun Tot project to keep the kiddies creative instead of stuck inside with cabin fever! this one’s a fun project…for rainy day, sleepover, when the kids see you scrapbooking and want to also, or even a birthday present.

with young children it is easy to please them with stickers! for birthday presents i’ll quickly make one of these books, personalize the front cover, and give it to the birthday boy or girl with stickers to put inside. (however, according to my 4 year old, when trying to decide what to get her friend for her birthday told me…

“mom, that’s not a real present. you don’t get that at the store!”

no way baby, it is hand-made and shows a touch of thoughtfulness – way better than a “real gift”!

start off with a 12×12 piece of paper, since i make these often i have made a master template for the kids to trace but it’s just notched out in the middle on the bottom in whatever size you’d like your folded pockets.

simple enough, right?

then I let the kids score where the bottom edge will be, my finished books are 6×6 so the score line right in the middle and easy to remember.

use a little MONO AQUA Liquid Glue for now mess in securing your pockets down.

a hole punch on top and bottom binding.

slip some paper inside with matching holes and run some ribbon through it.

make it personalized with letter stickers,
the finished result can be as embellished or decorated as you choose.

stay warm, stay safe and stay creative.
