To keep up the Party from this week I made a layout of my daughter’s first birthday but not the actual birthday. Is a picture of her at the store picking the theme of the birthday and if you haven’t guessed we picked Minnie Mouse.

For the title I used the 1 candle of the Cricut Sweet Treats Cartridge and the font is from the All Mixed Up Cartridge. Most of the patterned papers are from Momenta.

For the doodling I used Tombow Markers and I also used them on the  candle flame and I used the blending marker.

This cute girl and the balloon is from the Paper Dolls Everyday Cartridge and I made the ears with the Paper Dolls Dress Up Cartridge and my Gypsy. For her face I used Peachy Keen Stamps  and for her hair I used Tombow Markers and the blending marker. I also doodle the balloon the with the markers. I embossed the little girl dress and I inked it.

This cupcake is from Sweet Treats. I embossed the cupcake wrapper and I used glitter glue on the candle.

i feel badly putting my name on this idea, as it is not my own…
let me explain -  have you found “pinterest” yet? well…. that is my explanation.
a virtual bulletin board where you can “pin” all the things you want to buy; “pin” all the recipes you want to try; and “pin” all the wonderful craft ideas you want to make. when you find it on a blog, or online shopping site, or a website you save it so you can find it when you need it.
well, i’ve had this idea pinned for a while and finally decided to make them. COASTERS from TILES! yes, and it is super easy. you will need a few supplies though, so grab a pencil jot down the few things you’ll need and let’s get to work.
since this week we are talking about “PARTIES!” i thought i’d add a little twist to the coaster. we are going to personalize them! who wouldn’t want to go home from a party or get-together with a personalized gift from their hostess?!?

* ceramic tiles (i used 4×4) from home improvement store/hardware store
* felt or cork – for underside of tile
* paint brush
* Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue
* Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue
* spray sealant
* something to decorate the top of the tile – pattern paper, photos, stamps & staz-on ink     -so many possibilities!

so my coasters are christmas themed (gearing up for that holiday season…)

1. i used Tombow MONO Multi to adhere a 4×4 piece of christmas themed pattern paper to a ceramic tile. i put the glue on the tile using the broad tip applicator and then smoothed the piece of paper over it. be sure to secure all the edges down.

2. set aside to dry and move onto the next one.

3. when you finish adding the paper to the front of the tiles, this would be the point where you would personalize the tiles using a stamp (i did monograms) and staz-on ink

4. go back to the first tiles that should be dry now. use a small amount of Tombow MONO Aqua and squiggle a few lines of glue over the top of the pattern paper and the stamped image. use a paint brush to spread the glue around.

5. work with the edges and smooth them down. there will be a little bubbling, but as the glue drys most of the bubbles settle out.
the thicker the paper the fewer bubbles! photos do not tend to bubble at all when printed on photo paper.

6. set these aside to dry and wash your brush out

7. when dry, should be 10-15 minutes, take the tiles outside or to a ventilated area and spray with the sealant.
you need the sealant to keep the coasters protected. as condensation from glasses/cups touches an un-sealed coaster it will become sticky, as the MONO Aqua Liquid Glue is water-based.

8. allow these to dry.

9. cut felt or cork to fit the bottom of the tile  and adhere with Tombow MONO Multi.

10. then use them at your party, each person gets their own coaster…and then they get to take it home!

so? are you going to try it? i hope these directions work for you as well as they did for me. drop me a line if you have any questions!

and thank you pinterest for being a place to gather so many ideas…and thank you to the many crafters in the world that share your work with all of us!

p.s. yes, you can use M.P. for this project…but sometimes you just don’t have that white stuff around when you are feeling crafty. it is good to know that other glues will do the work just as well or even better.

To follow the Halloween theme of the week I made a cute Halloween card perfect for a kid. I used mostly Basic Grey patterned paper. For the purple card I actually used white cardstock with Dusty Concord Distress Ink.

This cute little monster is from the Mini Monsters Cricut Cartridge and I also used Glossy Accents and googly eyes to make him extra cute.

I made a bow with Black and Orange Twine and I also wrapped it around the mat. The orange tag behind it is from the Once Upon A Princess Cartridge.

This old little fence was cut from the Paper Dolls Dress Up Cricut Cartridge and I embossed it with a Tim Holtz embossing folder. I also inked it with brown ink to show the embossing detail.

I stamped an inchie from InkaDinkaDoo stamp set and I punched out with my one inch circle punch and then I punched a little scalloped circle and I layered the sentiment. I also used Glossy Accents on the stamp.

little bits or little bites??? i guess that depends on what you dress up as this year for halloween.

but i have decided to take my halloween in little….well, in small amounts. i take so many pictures that layouts are not an option to show all the fun that we have on halloween. i started creating an album each year. some years i can make them ahead of time and add the pictures after the holiday. and others i am playing catch-up on. several companies have kits that you can use to make it easy. all coordinated and ready to assemble. i did that with this album from little yellow bicycle…

but even still i had too many pictures i wanted to use. i couldn’t narrow it down anymore; i had to keep them. so i glued several photos together – two at a time, back to back. i used Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue. i used it sparingly as it is a water-based glue and too much can warp your pictures. however, i carefully applied a thin line around the outside edges and a few squiggles towards the middle. this holds the pictures securely and gives it more stability. with that done i was able to punch holes in them and add them into the mini album as their own page.

a tip- if you put together an album before you have pictures for it, leave space for a standard size picture. a picture can always be cut down…i do 4×6′s and 2×3′s (a wallet size).

do you have your costumes picked out yet? how about a way to preserve those memories? are you set to take tons of pictures? i am, and i’m putting together this year’s mini-album now….don’t worry, you’ll get to see it in a few weeks!

Spooky Bat DoodleDab

To make the Spooky Bat, you need to learn how to make the Curve Stroke

with the brush tip of the Dual Brush Pen.

Spooky Bat loves to embellish a Halloween card, a frightful scrapbook page or even a ghoulish treat bag.

To make the Spooky Bat, you
need to learn how to make the Curve
Stroke with the brush tip of the Dual Brush Pen. Spooky Bat loves to embellish a Halloween
card, a frightful scrapbook page or even a ghoulish treat bag.

DoodleDab CURVE STROKE

Step 1. Start here with the point
of the brush tip and press down to start forming the stroke.

Step 2. Go in the direction of the
arrow, pushing on the brush tip a little more to make the stroke wider.

Step 3. Start to lift up the tip at
the end and off the paper to create the sharp point.

Step 4. Practice
making the curve stroke. Try making it smaller or larger.

Step 5. After you
are happy with your stroke, make it in the opposite direction! It’s a little
easier to draw the left to right curve stroke if you angle your paper slightly.

SPOOKY BAT

Step 6. Start the Spooky Bat by making two mirror-image curve strokes

Step 7. Add smaller curve strokes to each side to form the wings.

Step 8. Add tiny teardrop strokes for the ears

Step 9. Using the fine tip of the pen; add eyes, feet and little curls on
the top of the wings – makes them look a little bit more vampir-ish!

Spooky Bat can have a dotted flight path or little movement marks for their flapping wings. He also comes in
lots of spooky colors. Spooky Bat also likes to hang around the bat cave. Turn the paper upside down when drawing Spooky Bat sleeping in the cave.

and here’s another….

This month’s DT challenge was to show how we celebrate Memorial Day. To be honest, we don’t really do very much. I do reflect and give thanks for those who gave their lives serving our country and for those still serving.

One thing we do now is take the wreaths that were at my grandparents funeral and put them on their graves. Two of my brothers and their families as well as my family meet at the cemetery.

Yesterday we BBQ’d and I made cupcakes. For my project I decided to make another cupcake holder by Cutting Cafe, only this time the two cupcake holder. I used Tombow’s Mono Adhesive Power Bond to put the box together. I am loving how it turned out.

I cut the stars with my Cricut. I cut 3 of cardstock and one of patterned paper for each star. Then I adhered them together using Mono Adhesive Permanent. By cutting 3 or more and layering them, you get the effect of chipboard. I added a button to the center of the stars using Tombow’s Power Tabs.

To make the medallion cupcake toppers, I cut a piece of patterned paper 1.5″ x 12″ and scored every 1/2″ and then accordian folded the strip. I adhered the ends together with the Power Bond adhesive.

I then cut 3 circles (2 cardstock and 1 patterned paper) for each topper and adhered together with Mono Adhesive Permanent and then adhered a cut star to the center. I used Mono Multi Liquid Glue to add the circle to the accordian piece. I had to hold it down til it dried and wish I would have had more Power Tabs as they would have held instantly. I also added a circle piece to the back.

With Mono Adhesive Permanent I adhered a popsicle stick to the back and inserted into my cupcakes.

I hope you enjoyed this project. Let me know if you make any of these cupcake boxes. I would love to see yours.

Be sure to stop by again tomorrow and Thursday to see what the other DT members created for their Memorial Day Celebration.

P.S.  If you would like to see the pictures of the wreaths we put on my grandparents’ grave, just click on my signature below and it will take you to my blog.

mardi gras is not typically observed or celebrated in my house… however, the opportunity to have a party with friends and good food should never be turned down. check out the invitation i made for FAT TUESDAY!

i’ll try to walk you through how i put it together…

1. grab cardstock (or pattern papers) in mardi gras colors! the brighter the better.

2. (yes, i free-handed this…) draw half of a mask on one of the pieces of cardstock.

3. score the paper where the center of the mask would be, and then  fold it over.

4. cut out the half mask that was drawn, and open it up to reveal a full mask. use it as a template to trace onto two other colors. play with layers, leaving one mask intact and layering pieces of the other colors on top of it. use MONO Aqua to adhere it all together. (SIDENOTE : i love using MONO Aqua for paper piecing. small dots do not warp the paper, it dries clear, i can do an assembly line without worrying that the glue is going to dry before i get my pieces where i want them.

5. i traced the mask so i could follow the lines with the MONO Aqua, but I am glad that it dries pretty clear so when I get it in the wrong spot and have to slide it a little, it hasn’t ruined my project.

6. using the MONO Aqua again, add details with glitter. this glitter was super fine. i have to put in a disclaimer that i love using the Glue Pen to add glitter and crushed velvet flock, but i needed to do this all at the same time, so i didn’t want it to dry too fast. using the MONO Aqua allows me to take the time i need and not rush. it takes longer to dry than the Glue Pen, but serves it’s purpose well.

7. using scissors cut up the middle of the mask so it will have two flaps that open.

8. i added panels of a light purple to the inside of the mask/inside of the card, because i didn’t want to see the invitation through the eyes, however, it could be a very dramatic flair to have portions of the insides visible.

using microsoft word i printed an invitation to glue to the inside, which i used the new Stamp Runner Permanent Adhesive for.

then using three Dual Brush Pens i drew in circles, to resemble beaded necklaces.

9. i added gems to the front of the card. if i were to make several invitations or cards using different gems and placement of them would make each card personal and unique. if the gems are flat on the back using MONO Multi or the MONO Metal Glue will work best.

10. the last thing i did was to add Tombow’s new Fastener Tabs to the inside of the card to keep it closed, the white fastener tab on white paper is barely noticeable and kept it together nicely!

so? did you enjoy? was a it a good one? let me say…there is a reason we call it Fat Tuesday!

so we need a way to keep up with birthdays and anniversaries and holidays?

in this post here, i showed how i organized my bills and upcoming events. i even mentioned an idea about putting a list of events for the month on each tab.
well i did it! used microsoft word and text boxes to create a document that i can change as needed. printed and trimmed them up, and adhered it to the front of the card with Tombow MONO Dot Adhesive Runner. this way i can peel it off a little easier if i need to change something.  i can look to the month coming up, see what cards i need and then make them and stash them behind the “number” for the appropriate send off date. a quick help would be to keep envelopes and stamps in the front of the basket, or behind their own special divider. then come bill or card, you’ll have all you need handy to send it off!

for years i have said i would love to have a stash of cards that i make ahead of time, so when the need arises, i can quickly grab one and i’d be done. but i have not accomplished that goal yet. i do have some cards that i go through, some store bought and some hand-made. but inevitably, i end up making one for the occasion. kind of a mood thing for me.

but here is what my file looks like. maybe it’ll work for you…?

p.s. january is the busiest month! if i don’t have it together, i’m behind before the year even gets going!

with this huge snow storm coming it sounds like a lot of you might be snowed in this weekend so we thought we’d post a fun Tot project to keep the kiddies creative instead of stuck inside with cabin fever! this one’s a fun project…for rainy day, sleepover, when the kids see you scrapbooking and want to also, or even a birthday present.

with young children it is easy to please them with stickers! for birthday presents i’ll quickly make one of these books, personalize the front cover, and give it to the birthday boy or girl with stickers to put inside. (however, according to my 4 year old, when trying to decide what to get her friend for her birthday told me…

“mom, that’s not a real present. you don’t get that at the store!”

no way baby, it is hand-made and shows a touch of thoughtfulness – way better than a “real gift”!

start off with a 12×12 piece of paper, since i make these often i have made a master template for the kids to trace but it’s just notched out in the middle on the bottom in whatever size you’d like your folded pockets.

simple enough, right?

then I let the kids score where the bottom edge will be, my finished books are 6×6 so the score line right in the middle and easy to remember.

use a little MONO AQUA Liquid Glue for now mess in securing your pockets down.

a hole punch on top and bottom binding.

slip some paper inside with matching holes and run some ribbon through it.

make it personalized with letter stickers,
the finished result can be as embellished or decorated as you choose.

stay warm, stay safe and stay creative.
