This week we are showcasing the color Tangerine Tango, which is the color of the year!! Orange is my favorite color and this hue is my second favorite!! Some of my plans for this year is to do more Home Decor pieces. I moved to the US on October and a lot has happened since then, leaving me very little time to make more Home Decor. In my house back home my daughter had a mural and her room didn’t need much more to be cute. Now she has the whitest walls in the world and is kind of sad. One of my projects for this year will be to turn that plain white room into a nice and fun environment. I bought this birdhouse with the idea to turn it on a nice decoration.

The first thing I did was testing the Dual Brush Pens on the bottom of the birdhouse and I remember that last week, Sarah gave us a little tip about using the Mono Aqua Liquid Glue first, letting it dry and then using the Dual Brush Pens. She used chipboard but it was worth a try and it worked the same. Using the Mono Aqua Liquid Glue before coloring the birdhouse made it much brighter. I used the Mono Aqua Liquid Glue on the parts I was going to color with Dual Brush Pens and let it dry. I did super fun laundry while I waited so you probably don’t need to wait overnight. Then I colored the Tangerine and Green parts and let them rest for a few minutes and used a little bit more of the Mono Aqua Liquid Glue to seal it. After it was dry I measured as best as I could the parts that I was going to cover with paper leaving just a tiny tiny bit extra so I could sand it down later. I used my awesome Mono Multi Liquid Glue to glue the paper on the house. The broad tip helped me spread glue across the surface easily. If there was lots of excess on the paper I trimmed it down with a craft knife and then I sand it down. For the roof I used 7 layers of paper stripes and a scalloped border punch. For the front of the house I used a border punch to make a fence-like detail . I also used a die cut, a little detail to give the illusion of a tiny window and 3 handmade flowers that I made with felt, pearls and my Mono Multi Liquid Glue.

I loved using the Dual Brush Pens instead of paint, it looks more like a stain which makes it a little bit more realistic and shiny!! I loved all these bright colors together!! Hopefully the year 2012 will be bright

This was such a fun project!! It made me feel like a kid again!! I hope you’ll give Home Decor a try this year!!

I hope you liked this project!!

Take Care!!

i have lost count as to how many organizing ideas i have tried out. well, add this to the countless number.
calendars are great, but they never seem to give me enough room to write what i need to. or more importantly what my family needs to see.
so i thought i’d give this a try. i made magnets for each day of the week. then i put them on my fridge with a piece of paper under each one. it is easier for everyone to see what is going on that day, who is going where, and what needs to be done.

crossing my fingers for an organized 2012 (while still using my organizational binder, and my bill sorter, and my kid’s daily schedule…i told you i have tried many ideas!)

to make the magnets i used Tombow Dual Brush Pens to color raw chipboard. the colors seep in nicely to the chipboard textures leaving an even and soft color.with 96 colors it is easy to find a color to match the papers i was working with. with a circle punch i made 7 circles and inked the edges with a dark brown Dual Brush Pen.

then using Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue i layered all the pieces together -raw chipboard circle, pattern paper, marker – colored chipboard, with a raw magnet on the back. the Multi is strong enough that even the force of raw magnets will not separate the magnet and the chipboard, and tacky so it holds the paper and the chipboard well without warping or bubbling because it is too wet.

as an experiment i wanted to see what would happen if i coated the raw chipbaord with Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue before coloring it with a Tombow Brush Pen. the result was a slightly more vibrant color with a shine. see the difference between the flower with Aqua and the circle without?

this week’s blog hop allowed me the opportunity to stretch my creative juices and take these fun stickers past just paper and try using them in a different way.

i love hand-making ornaments! Elizabeth Craft Designs have a great product that helped me make some fabulous ornaments this Christmas season. the product are their peel-off stickers and they have so many uses.

using clear plastic ornaments (the kind that separate into two halves) i attached the peel-off stickers inside. i smoothed them down really well, making sure there weren’t any gaps between the sticker and the ornament.

the next step was to paint the inside of the ornament, over the stickers, with acrylic paint. this could be a quick paint the whole thing one color, or an intricate job by painting individual sections different colors.

once the paint has dried, about 1 1/2 – 2 hours, carefully peel the sticker off of the ornament. i used a paper piercing tool to help lift it up, without scratching the paint. then i used

Tombow Power Tabs and added a bow to the top of the ornament and tied on some gold cording. the result is an outline of the image, that allows light through, and glows when it hangs on the Christmas tree. and i love it!

thank you Elizabeth Craft Designs for a great product and a fun blog hop! be sure to check out their blog this week for more ideas on how to use their peel-off stickers and other fabulous products!

I use a ton of candles in my house and this jar is a recycled candle jar. Don’t worry, it has been washed many times and the smell is completely gone.

I stamped the sentiment and frame for the sentiment from the Winter Mittens set from Gina K. Designs and cut it out with a Spellbinders Fancy Tags die. I used more of the Tombow Permanent Stamp Runner to attach the trim to the red cardstock wrap and then I used Tombow’s Power Tabs to attach the tag to the front of the jar and to hold the twine in place.

Did you know that the Tombow Power Tabs can hold up to 6.5 oz? That’s awesome, you should give them a try!

Here is the granola recipe, it is fast and easy and can be adapted to add whatever goodies you like.

Granola

4 C old fashioned oats
11/2 C sliced almonds
½ C packed light brown sugar
½ t salt
½ t cinnamon
¼ C vegetable oil
¼ C honey
1 t vanilla
11/2 C raisins or dried cranberries
optional: 1 C chocolate chips-add after granola has completely cooled

Preheat oven to 300. In a bowl mix the oats, almonds, brown sugar, salt and cinnamon. In a saucepan warm the oil and honey. Stir in vanilla. Pour liquid over oat mixture and stir gently with a wooden spoon.

Spread granola in a baking pan. Bake for 40 minutes , stirring carefully every 10 minutes. Cool completely. Seal in airtight container or zip lock bag. Store at room temperature for 1 week or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Makes 6 cups.

as my kids are getting older and we are being torn in so many directions with activiites and holiday parties i wanted a way to keep FAMLY as an important part of this Christmas season.

we have several countdowns in the house, but i wanted one that helped us spend time together each day. i had a few requirements for my new countdown. i wanted it to be a decoration that could be left up the whole season. so something that was torn or cut down wouldn’t do. i wanted something that could be used again next year, so it needed to have the ability to be changed.

i decided on a banner, with each activity attached to the flags. then i created a hinge that would allow for the attachment of numbers 1-25 on top of the activity. i gathered my supplies:

5-6 different pattern papers

scallop circle punch

circle punch

paper trimmer

cardstock – i used three colors (black for scallop punch, red for die cut numbers, and white for punched circles and hinges)

Tombow Adhesives – MONO Glue Pen, MONO Adhesive Permanent runner, MONO Aqua Liquid Glue, Fastener Tabs

after cutting the flags from pattern paper, decorate each one using paper or embellishments. i used Tombow MONO Adhesive Permanent runner to attach a strip of paper to the top of each.

the numbers were created by layering a punched scalloped circle and a punched circle, again using Tombow MONO Adhesive Permanent runner. the numbers were cut with an electronic die cut machine and then glued to the top circle with Tombow MONO Glue Pen. I’ve said it before, and i’ll say it again….my favorite thing about the Glue Pen is that the adhesive formula does not adhere to your skin! when working with small items you don’t have to worry about your hands getting sticky and making marks on your project.

the activities were all written on more punched circles. hinges were created by cutting small strips of cardstock, approx 1″ x 2″. fold the strips in half and glue one half to the back of the punched circles with the activities. i used Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue.

next i took a sheet of Tombow Fastener Tabs and cut them in half while still on the sheet. then i attached a Fastener Tab on the other half of the hinge. keeping the punched circle with hinge face up pull off the backing from the Fastener Tab then center the scalloped number over the hinge and the punched circle.

once the two-piece hinge is complete apply Tombow MONO Adhesive Permanent to the back of the punched circle with the activity written on it and adhere one to each flag.

tie the flags together with ribbon. i chose to punch holes on both corners of the flag, then cut short lengths of ribbon and tie knot between two flags, and then continue it all the way down.

as the days pass the numbers can be removed, revealing the activity underneath OR can be left on and flipped up to look at the activity.

because the numbers are fastened onto the activity with the hook and loop Fastener Tabs they can be rearranged for next year. our activities include parties we have to go to, performances the kids are dancing in, and other events that have a specific date. most likely we will be participating in the same or similar events next year, so i will be able to move the numbers around accordingly.

do you have a countdown with activities? i’d love to see what other people are doing. post them to our facebook page so i can take a look!

It’s ABC Week in Tombow, so this week you’ve seen everything but cards. Lately I’ve been a little hooked with Wall Hangings and I wanted to do a Home Decor Project for my new craft room. I used some of my favorite things like dress forms, wings, corrugated cardboard texture and heat embossing.

First, I use some recycled corrugated cardboard which I misted with homemade mist. Then with my fingers I spread a little bit of bronze paint and gold glitter glue. You just keep doing it until you like how it looks. When it was little bit dry I used the Mono Aqua Liquid Glue and with the fine tip I applied some random microbeads. The dress form is a die cut but I used recycled cereal box to cover the top I used microbeads which I applied with a pretty thick coat of Mono Aqua Liquid Glue. *Mono Aqua Liquid Glue dries completely clear and after is dry you won’t even notice where it is. It also has a fine tip for little details and the broad tip is for covering bigger spaces like the dress form. The bottom is two coats of gold glitter glue. The wings are rub-ons that I used on some misted dictionary pages. To put the piece in the cardboard I used Tombow’s Power Tabs. *Power Tabs can hold up to 6 ounces and it works on a difficult surface like corrugated cardboard. Follow Your Heart was heat embossed and I wrinkled the paper to give it some texture before I inked it. To glue the title and bling I used Mono Multi Liquid Glue. I used Power Tabs on the ribbon before punching a hole for the brads.

I love recycling and using scraps and this is a 85% recycled project. What people see as trash I rescue and turn into treasure.

I hope you liked my green project!! Happy Thursday and see you tomorrow!! Take Care!!

I was thrilled to receive this Tissue Box to work with. I knew I wanted to create a tissue box that would be used for the holidays so I took my inspiration from my Christmas decorations. My tree is decorated in aqua, teal, white, silver and a touch of lime green. I replaced the lime green with some pretty purples for this project.

I started by giving the naked box a coat of gesso to prime it and then set it aside to dry. Once the gesso was good and dry I added a coat of Martha Stewart glitter paint in Aqua. Guess what? The paint was transparent and although the glitter was pretty and shimmery, you could barely see the color over the gesso.

Hmmm, this got me thinking so I pulled out some of my Tombow Dual Brush markers and scribbled randomly onto the sides of the box with a few colors and then spritzed with a fine mist of water. For my theme I was trying to do something vintage with a twist but I also wanted to do a inspirational wall hanging.

I decoupaged the frame using Tombow’s Mono Multi Liquid Glue which worked great and fast. I colored my stamped images with my Retro Dual Brush Pen Set. Dual Brush Pens are amazing because I use them for doodling and coloring my stamped pictures. I actually just started coloring and I can’t tell how how much the Blender Pen that is included in the Dual Brush Pen Sets helps, is amazing! For the tag in the center I used foam tabs to lift the tag from the center and for gluing the dew drops I used Mono Aqua Liquid Glue which is the best for this since is completely clear. Here’s how I make this great card box.

The Tombow DT received a wonderful goody from Walnut Hollow to alter (thank you so much Walunt Hollow!!). I rec’d their Card Keeper Box and got busy covering it with yummy patterned paper.

First I painted the edges with white paint. Then I used Tombow’s Mono Aqua Liquid Glue to adhere the papers to the box. I cut the letters with my Cricut and adhered them to the front with Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive. This adhesive is perfect for small areas because you can rub the excess adhesive off.

or the top I added a large silk flower and adhered it with Power Tabs (as well as the felt flowers on the front).
