it’s off to work we go…

in my short lifetime I have held over 18 jobs…not counting daughter, sister, wife and mother. i have been working since i was 11 years old, when my first job was a “page” in the public library. since then i have been a babysitter/nanny, telephone operator, sandwich maker, a retailer of clothes, books, vidoes and scrapbook supplies, and a teacher to children and adults. quite a variety.

when i first got this “suitcase” mini-album from clear scraps i immediately knew that the subject i wanted for the book had to be something other than travel. trying to think of other ideas i used my best sounding boards….and with their help we came up with an album about all my jobs.

over the last year the companies we have teamed up with have been incredibly generous with what they have sent. i was able to go back through my stash and pull out papers and embellishments that pulled this album together…..basic grey, graphic 45, maya road, cosmo cricket, and hambly screen prints

the best thing about this album is that i am using random pictures that i’ve been holding onto for years. none of my jobs have been documented with pictures, not even my scrapbooking jobs. so a random picture here or there, or a company logo is all i have taken with me. this book will be a place to write the memories and experiences i had while at those jobs. could be a good laugh years from now.

while working with this clear album i have come up with some tips to keep in mind, because there are challenges as well as rewards to working with clear.

1. definitely use Tombow MONO Vellum Adhesive. the most you’ll see is a shimmer…but it really is invisible.

2. apply the adhesive to the picture, paper or embellishment instead of the clear pages. easier to apply…and go slow, the more even the coverage, the less “goobers” will occur.

3. take care when placing your pictures and paper…once it is down, it is down!

4. Tombow MONO Glue Pen will adhere embellishments to the clear acrylic

5. take advantage of layers

6. clear album pages are a double sided paper’s best friend…you get to show off both sides! no choosing or leaving one side out!

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and I have a fun project to share with you. I found this fun tutorial on Shannon’s blog.

I used fun papers from Cosmo Cricket’s Early Bird and The Boyfriend lines. These papers are perfect for a teacher gift. I used Tombow’s MONO Adhesive Dots, MONO Aqua Liquid Glue, MONO Glue Stick, and MONO Adhesive Power Bond.

Here is a tip for how I cut the curve for the carton closer flaps. I inserted my piece into an oval punch like shown below. Super easy!

For the ruffles on the chipboard circle, I just hand-sewed a running stitch along one edge of ribbon and then gathered up and knotted and placed behind the chipboard. I glued it with the MONO Liquid Aqua Glue.

This was so much fun to make that I think I will make some more. I filled these with paper clips, erasers that go on the end of pencils, and candy! Ü

i had seen an idea to use a picture frame as a message board over a year ago and i just had to made some… i went through my scraps, bought some frames and was totally uninspired. fast forward to last week. i opened a box that had the lovely early bird collection from Cosmo Cricket and i knew just how to use it! i’ll definitely be making more of these, what a fun gift. it came together quickly too. just a paper trimmer and Tombow MONO MULTI liquid adhesive is all it took to wrap the paper around the chipboard that is included with the frame. a few Cosmo Cricket chipboard stickers, a quick title and i was done. seriously, fifteen minutes from start to finish! i’m off to get a jumpstart on this fun gift for a few special people in my life. thanks Cosmo Cricket, for some much needed inspiration.

Creating with Cosmo Cricket!

I LOVE Cosmo Cricket and was so excited when I learned that Tombow would be partnering with them for the month of April. The two kits I received were Early Bird and The Boyfriend. I have two cards to share with you today using each kit. You will be seeing lots more cards and projects made with these two lines.

My first card uses paper and coordination chipboard from The Boyfriend line. The chipboard has adhesive on the back which makes it even more easier to use.

For my second card I used my favorite kit Early Bird. I love the colors and patterns in this line. This ADORABLE image is from MFT’s (My Favorite Things) Pure Innocence line called Apple For You. These images are just so sweet!

I colored the images with Tombow’s Markers with a blender pen. Numbers 098, 062, 990, N00, 761, 243, 856, &, 977.

I also used Tombow’s MONO Adhesive Dots to put the cards together and MONO Aqua Liquid Glue for the button.

I love the large scallop dies that I’ve seen people use and don’t have one, so punched circles and lined them up behind the dotted patterned paper piece.

See the ribbon on my card? It looked like this first:

The stitching was too white for my card so I just colored the stitching with Tombow’s #990 marker. Cool huh? Ü
