i love making mini books to showcase one event or use up some of my favorite pictures.

i had a stack of “loving family” pictures… you know the ones that you capture a fleeting moment where siblings actually seem to like each other? and children are happy and not complaining? we are trying (very hard) to be a loving family and i wanted to reinforce that as Valentine’s Day is approaching. so i used a mini album that had pages i could make into pockets to keep little notes that we will write to each other. i also wanted a place to keep more of those pictures of precious moments.

i used Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Adhesive to adhere the paper to the chipboard. i used Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Adhesive to secure the pockets, and i used Tombow Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive to secure all the paper and paper embellishments inside the album, as well as the ric rac ribbon on the front cover. the dot adhesive is perfect for this kind of ribbon, because it holds well and the excess dots rub clean away! i used a Dual Brush Pen, N15 black, to ink all the edges of the paper and the edges of the chipboard.

to keep the album closed i used a Tombow Power Tab on the back cover, under the circle, to secure a ribbon. then i set a brad on the front of the book on another cardstock circle. both circles were glued down with Tombow MONO Multi. this allows for the ribbon to be wound around the brad to hold the book closed.

i am keeping my fingers crossed this experiment will work…at least for a little while.

A quick review of how to make the teardrop stroke with the Dual Brush Pens from Tombow:

Teardrop Stroke: Using the brush tip, ‘dab‘ onto the paper to make the teardrop stroke. It’s that simple! Don’t make the stroke too small; you will not harm the tip by pressing down on it.

Brush Blending – for creating two-toned strokes – Use a sheet of clear plastic taped to a white piece of paper, for your blending palette. To make two-toned teardrop strokes, choose two colors, one darker than the other. Add a few strokes of the darker color onto the blending palette. Pick up this color with a lighter colored pen by dragging the pen through the color. Make the teardrop stroke and you will have magically created a perfectly blended two-toned stroke. You will find you can go far with just one load of color; you do not have to pick up more color for each stroke.

Heart Wing Butterfly

Start with a large dot made with the fine tip for the head of your butterfly. Make a teardrop stroke underneath for the body. Make the wings using the teardrop stroke, bringing the points together like a heart for the top set of wings. With the fine tip and a fine touch, add the antennae and the dotted flight path. For additional detail, add dots on the wings with a white gel pen or glitter pen.

Hello there! All week my fellow DT members have been sharing their creations using the Pantone’s 2008 color called Blue Iris. Today is my turn. I decided to make some little Thank You boxes (filled with something sweet, of course) to have on hand.

Tombow’s Dual Brush Pen #555 (Ultramarine) is the perfect match, so that was my starting point. I used the Lifestyle Crafts Rectangle Box Die to create this adorable little 2 x 3 x 1 favor box. I then cut out several white flowers using the MFT Mini Rolled Roses Die and the Memory Box Small Pinwheel Posie Die. Before I rolled the flowers, I used the Tombow Dual Brush Pen #555 to tip the topside of each of the flowers. I then rolled them and secured each one on the bottom using Tombow Mono Multi adhesive. Just a little drop on the bottom of each flower held them nicely. I then inked up a Memory Box Thank You stamp with the same Dual Brush Marker (for a perfect color match) onto some white cardstock and cut it out with a circle die and adhered it to a blue scallop circle using Tombow’s Mono Adhesive Permanent Dots Roller and adhered that to the top of the box with Tombow’s Foam Tabs. I used a little more of the Mono Multi to adhere the flowers to the thank you panel and then I used some of the Tombow Mono Aqua around the top of each flower and sprinkled them with Elizabeth Craft Designs Warm Highlight Glitter. A little ribbon and some bling and these boxes are ready to go.

last one! this brings my count of layouts for the year so far to 4…one a week. not to shabby. hmmm…maybe i should set a goal to do 52 layouts this year, one for each week?

the last color challenge is BLUE IRIS. whereas i had a harder time picking out papers and embellishments for my first layout using Tangerine Tango, this time i was able to dig up a few things. even still, i put my Tombow Dual Brush Pen to work. I colored two raw chipboard stars and some white sticker letters with color #555 .

i cut out the outline of the star, and because it was so thin, i used the Tombow Stamp Runner with Dot Adhesive. being able to stamp along the thin outline allowed for better placement and did not pull on the paper, as i feared using the runner would. the slide mechanism is very easy to use and better yet, if some of the dots went over the edge of the outline, because they are dots they clean up by rubbing them away.

i used Tombow MONO Multi to set the buttons and the chipboard stars, and Tombow MONO Adhesive Permanent Runner to glue down the pictures and pattern paper.

Blue Iris You Rock for ABC Week by Debbie Fisher

Can you believe it is already the last week of January? Time is flying fast already this year. When you read this I will be in Anaheim, CA for CHA. I am so excited to be there and know I will have lots of fun goodies to share with you when I get back.

But to tide you over until then, we are finishing our Pantone colors of the year this month with Blue Iris. (color of the year for 2008) I am not a huge royal blue color fan, so this was a bit more of a challenge for me.

I made a cover for a package of candy. I wanted to show you a couple of fun things that you could do with Tombow’s Dual Brush Pens. I used #555 to not only color the ink onto the stamp ( by Our Craft Lounge), but also in an air art gun to splatter the ink around the edges.

Do you see how gradual the design fades? That is from first coloring onto the stamp with the marker, then “huffing” on the ink and stamping, huff again and stamp, and repeat until the ink is completely faded. I love to use this technique with markers on stamps and hope you will want to give it a try as well.

I used Mono Adhesive Permanent to attach the sentiment and Foam Tabs to pop up the heart.

Color Combinations Using the New 2012 Colors by Marie Browning

Keeping on the theme of color this January, here is another color combination using the 2012 Top Ten colors

With this project I have chosen both paper colors and Irojiten Coloring Pencil colors to create a muted floral combination using the following colors: (I have also Listed the matching Dual Brush Pen Colors.)

Irojiten V-7 King Fisher, Dual Brush Pen 528 Navy Blue Irojiten DI – 4 Sage Green, Dual Brush Pen 192 Asparagus Irojiten VP-1 Cameo Pink, Dual Brush Pen 723 Pink Irojiten P-20 Crocus, Dual Brush Pen 623 Purple Sage Irojiten Lg-2 Cork, Dual Brush Pen 992 Sand

I used the Dots Adhesive Stamp Runner to attach the ribbon and the torn colored panel onto the card front. I had a delicate piece of a paper wasp nest and added it to the corner by first applying the Dot Adhesive then laying down the wasp nest. I simply rubbed away the exposed adhesive. The bee charm was added using MONO Multi Liquid Glue.

This is a really fun and creative way to combine two differt coloring pproducts and achieve a great blending effect. I hope you enjoyed this project and learned a little more about Tombow’s products. Easter Egg Seed Packet By Guest Designer Karen Goguen

It’s never too early to start thinking about Easter is it? I didn’t think so, so I have created an “Easter Egg Seed Packet” for my project today.

The adorable seed packet cover and packet template is from High Hopes Rubber Stamps.

I stamped and embossed the image with black ink and embossing powder. I stamped the sentiments inside the banners with black ink. The image was colored with Tombow Dual Brush Markers. I added liquid appliqué to the clouds and heat set it to make it puffy. I made the seed packet with cardstock scored on the fold lines and cut the window out. I adhered a piece of acetate behind the window and the edges of the seed packet with Tombow MONO Power Adhesive Bond . Using my doily lace punch I cut ¾” strips of white cardstock and punched the borders. I cut the corners at 45degree angles and adhered them to the back edges of the image. Using foam tape I adhered the image to the seed packet front. To close the packet I used Tombow Fastener Tabs. Fastener tabs are sticky backed hook and loop fasteners perfect for papercrafts where a closer is needed. They close securely and open with ease!

I filled the seed packet with candy and it’s ready for an Easter basket!!

Here are the Tombow Dual Brush Marker colors I used…. 947 brown, 985 yellow, 451-491 blue, N25 black, N65 grey, 761-772 pink, 623- 603 purple, 133-126-076-177 greens.

This is a fun and creative way to send some Easter fun to those you know far and wide…I hope you enjoy this project.

So cute, it just calls to you to run into your studio and make this adorable card for that “Un-froggetable” person in your life…

I created a card with the adorable “Froggy Gift” from High Hopes Rubber Stamps. I made the card base 4 ¾ x 5 ½. I cut the green cardstock 4 ½ x 5 ¼ and embossed it with a heart embossing folder.

I adhered the blue, brown and designer paper, after punching the borders, with my Tombow Stamp Runner and colored the image with Tombow Dual Brush Markers.

I cut out the image and blue with my nesties labels and adhered them with my Tombow Stamp Runner and layered all the pieces with Tombow Foam Tabs. After threading bakers twine through the buttons, I adhered them with Tombow Power Tabs.

Here are the Tombow Markers I used… 942-912 …Flesh, N89-N60 …Background 076-098…Green, 990-991…yellow, 947…brown, 772…Pink, N89-528… Blue

Hello! This week on the Tombow blog we are continuing our journey through some of the past Pantone colors. Today I am sharing the 2010 color which was Turquoise. Tombow’s Dual Brush Pen #373 (Sea Blue) was a great match so I decided to use it along with some of the Irojiten Colored Pencils for today’s card.

I stamped this adorable Benton Heart Bear from Inky Antics and then colored the heart with Dual Brush Pen #373. I then added some Tombow Glue pen and sprinkled glitter over it to make the heart really pop.

I colored Benton with Irojiten Chestnut Brown and Autumn Leaf colored pencils and blended them out with some odorless mineral spirits. I used Tombow Mono Adhesive Dots to adhere all of the layers together. The buttons were attached with the the small Tombow Foam Tabs.

These acid-free double sided adhesive tabs are great for adding dimension to many projects, the small tab is 1/5 x 1/5 and the large tabs are ½ x ½, they are also great for layering and can be stacked for added dimension. They are suitable for most surfaces including paper, glass and metal. They are also crush resistant and instantly bond and hold.

This month the Tombow team has been sharing projects created using colors that coordinate with the Pantone “in” colors for the last few years. Today I am sharing a card that I created using the 2011 color, Honeysuckle.

Tombow’s Dual Brush Pen #743 (Hot Pink) is great match.

I used the marker to color in this beautiful butterfly image from the Inky Antics Brush Calligraphy #3 set and stamped it onto some white cardstock which I then cut out using some cirlcle nesties. I wanted the wings of the butterfly to have some subtle color so I used the Tombow Dual Brush Blender Pen to pull some of the ink from the stamped image. I really like how soft the wings look. I added a touch of glitter to the butterfly for a little sparkle. I used Tombow Permanent Stamp Runner to adhere all of the layers together and some of the Tombow Foam Tabs to pop up the sentiment panel.
