I’m back. Sorry about yesterday. We are dealing with a death in the family and for some reason I couldn’t get myself exited about macabre inspired invitations. Today I’m forcing myself to listen to my own message from last Friday and it’s all about the invites. So, thank you for all your comments and ideas. I’m taking a few here and we’ll put it to a vote–

Option #1 – FOOD. I loved Sarah’s idea of something edible and adding Ellen’s idea of vampire teeth! It’s something I’ve never done before and hadn’t ever even thought of. So after a fun trip to the craft store here are a few ideas in that realm.

Finger Chocolate Pretzels of a gummy hand- tie on a ribbon (Don’t forget) and add a tag. There is also a great bakery by me that I’ve spoken to about making individual Chocolate cakes that are shaped and decorated like an apple, with a vampire bite in it. We could do that, box it up and add a fun food label invite. (complete with vampire teeth!)

Option #2 – COFFIN. I found this wooden coffin box at the craft store but I really like Michelle’s idea about a paper coffin. Thankfully Debbie sent me a link with a pattern and I think it’d be really fun to do it slightly enlarged. If it’s big enough we could put vampire/halloween candy in it with the invite.

Option #3 – POP-UP Card- This was Mandie’s idea and I love it just because it’s something I’ve never done before. It looks and sounds insanely labor intensive BUT, I think the finished project might be worth it. I found a few patterns from the master himself, Robert Sabuda. Frakenstein, A Bat, and A Castle, which I’m sure we could rough up a bit to make it haunted.

So There you have it, Ideas! Speak up- tell me exactly what you’d like to see. Option #1 – Food. (Fingers or Tempting Apple Cakes) Option #2 – Coffin (Paper or Wood) and Option #3 – A Pop-Up Invite. Please speak up- share your thoughts and opinions. I can honestly say that I can’t do it without you.

Good Monday Morning. I hope your weekend was as rejuvenating as mine was. I’m ready to dive in- full force into our first project together. Grab your umbrellas and let’s get started. Every year I throw a big Halloween Murder Mystery Dinner. It’s always for 24-50 guests and every year the theme is different. Every year the invitations are the thing that ‘announce’ the event and get the excitement growing. This year I’m stepping back and leaving the process to you. Remember that I’m going to need your input. This is a process that requires all of us and can’t work unless you make your thoughts known. Our project is Halloween Invitations. From concepts and ideas today to a finished-ready to deliver project on Friday. It will be fun to see how everyone’s ideas flow and fun to see what our collective ideas create. Remember that majority vote wins so the more you speak up the more your idea will be heard. First a few examples of what has been done in the past. To get the ideas going.

The Western Saloon-Poker Themed Party Invites

The Pirate Themed Party -Message in A Bottle Invites

The Masquerade Ball Scroll Invites

The 1920′s Flapper Party Record Invites

So this year’s theme? HALLOSCREAM. A Taste of Trasylville Terror. More specifically Dracula and other villains. So now that the theme is set and the end goal of an invite in mind it’s time for brain storming. We could go the traditional paper invite route, we could do a prop invite and if so what props might work? we could have a multi-media invite like the record or we could be completely boring and do an e-vite. okay, no e-vite’s allowed. The rules are simply that it has be bring excitement to the guests and it has to go with the theme. Let the brainstorming begin!

The purpose of Tombow Tots has always been to inspire our readers to share their passions with kids. Not just your kids but kids at school, nieces and nephews, etc. No matter how old they are arts and crafts can be a wonderful outlet for their creativity and self-expression. It’s easier then you think and doesn’t take any time or money to give kids permission to look at the world creatively. Today’s project shows you just how easy it is!

While today’s project was declared the ‘favorite’ by the kids because of how cute it was, the supplies and prep happened to be my favorite part because it is so  Simple, Simple, SIMPLE.

SUPPLIES
THIS great pattern by go-make-me over at etsy.
(be sure to check out their other designs as well because all of them are just too cute for words.)
Scissors  and Hole Punch
Paper and Ribbon
Tombow MONO Glue Stick and MONO Adhesive POWERBOND

Then the process for putting it all together was even easier. Just a little cut here and some adhesive there and you are good to go! I litterally just handed the girls the print outs and walked off, coming back only to snap a few pictures and help tie on a couple ribbon handles. The girls LOVED making the fun accessories for their purses and since they used POWERBOND, I’m happy to report that 3 weeks later, they’re still playing with them and having fun with their matching purses.

Take a few minutes this week and share a little bit of your hobbies with a few kids, open a few eyes and see the excitement and awe. You’ll be glad you did.

In this latest quest to conquer the ‘Old School’ pile it has led me to think about my scrapbooking style and to re-define who/how and what needs be be documented. I’m still working on my ProjectLife for this year (more on that later) but overall what is ‘caught-up’ to you? I think Over the years my version of it has changed and evolved to fit me and my changing family. It no longer means that the latest pictures are preserved, it is starting to be  the milestones of memories are captured and savored. The little details of design still fit me and I still enjoy that creative outlet but the layouts that are actually getting done are either a) more heartfelt or b) simplified. While there were other snapshots of my husband’s school years in his old photo box, it was the main ones that I was drawn to, the ones that showed his growth and the a little bit of his personality. I still treasure all the others but, after 20 (or 30+) years there were some things that didn’t matter, and others that were still profoundly important to record and remember.

That’s another one of the great things about this little hobby/passion of mine. So much of it makes me realize what matters, what’s important and how we’ve all changed. I like the self discovery aspect that automatically occurs when you sit back and take a moment to remember.

Supplies; Bazzill cardstock, Corrugated cardboard, Staples, Alligator Clip, Tombow MONO Metal Liquid Glue , Photo Corners, Black Twill, Tombow MONO White Gel Pen.

*be sure to check back tomorrow for some fun layouts from all of you!!*

(Sing with me!) One of my favorite things about school layouts is that they are so universally timeless. While whiteboards, laptops and iPads are the new chalkboards and textbooks the classics will always endure the trends. For my husbands school album I decided to stick with a few school staples as my main elements and embellishments. The black/white Combination of a  chalkboard (the MONO White Gel pen works perfectly for this!), corkboard accents (MONO Powerbond is the absolute best on this!) paperclips, stencils, shipping tags and twill with classic school colors and old-school photo corners.  Take a look- and don’t forget to e-mail me or post on Facebook your latest school projects!

Isn’t that the cutest Kindergarten Diploma ever?! I love that I found this crumpled up in the bottom of a shoe box next to the basketball trophy and the old merit badges. What hidden gems have you found and saved, lately?

Back to School isn’t always about homework and bad pictures… sometimes it’s about documenting those awkward years for future generations laughing enjoyment. After all who wants to keep them hidden in a box when so many people would get a kick out of the Rick Astley hair cut or the Miami Vice tight white jeans. Hey, it’s proof that everything comes back in style again eventually, right?

This layout was made just using the Bazzill cardstocks I had in my stash, Tombow’s MONO Permanent Adhesive runner and MONO white Gel pen and my sewing machine. I’ve said it before but I really love the permanent adhesive runner for stitching, and this layout has A LOT of that! I also had a lot of memorabilia of my husbands that was too great not to keep so I scanned in things like report cars, artwork, band music and yearbook pages and slipped them in his ‘student file’ in the form of tags. More sewing there with just a few journaling notes.

Keep those school layouts coming, we’d love to post them and get a little insight into what “Back to School” means to you! Fune giveaways up for grabs too- email me your projects and contact info to jjwallace at me dot com or jwallace at tombowusa dot com.

*crash*

“MOOOOMMMM!”

from the other room; “I don’t want to see it!”

Yeah, with three little ones this is a familiar script at my house. When things break I don’t want to see it, I don’t want to think about it and I really don’t want to clean it up or replace it.

Earlier this summer another casualty in the break-a-thon was  a framed picture I had hanging in our front bathroom. After quickly realizing that the frame was okay and the picture wasn’t I was off on an etsy quest to find a fun ORANGE print to replace it. I *heart* my find.

I had seen the fun frames that have the glass border showing the paint of the wall underneath. Of course I loved them so I ordered a smaller print size and had an idea. If Tombow’s MONO Vellum Adhesive went on clear with my acrylics it would work on this… right? Oh yeah!! I went completely around the entire edge of this print then put it smack-dab in the center of my glass and you can’t see a thing! It really is a great feeling when you can make a frustratingly-broken-something into a wonderful-fixed-pretty-somthing. Especially when your response can still be the same.

From Debbie’s  Altered TP Tube to My Dainty Birthday Card…
I was inspired by Debbie’s idea for pulling something out and then I used her layout design as the basis for my card. Instead of a flower, I added a tag and some Pink Paislee pleated twill with a string instead of a ribbon.
For my Debbie inspired envelope I used cardstock and MONO Permanent adhesive runner  and cut out a flower shape at the top so the card could peek through (and since I was going for an ultra girly look I added a Dual Brush Pen colored flower for good measure!)

the inside of the card is super simple with just a few DBP colored flowers and a little  MONO White Gel Pen magic.

It’s been so fun to see everyone’s individual style come out. I love how everyone see’s a piece differently and highlights their favorite elements. Thanks for joining us on this fun inspiration everywhere project! Enjoy your weekend!
