In case you haven’t guessed, this month is all about Pantone’s color of the year, present and past. This week the Design Team is showing off Turquoise, color of the year for 2010. I would say this is still a very “hot” color. I have seen so much of this color in clothing, homes and fashions of all kinds.

Not only do I love this color, but I love ice cream sundaes. My favorite is hot fudge, what is yours?

The card I have to share with you today is using Irojiten colored pencils. I like to use Gamsol to blend the colored pencils to get a soft look.

How fun is the inside? (you can click on the pictures to get a larger view)

When using Honeycomb papers from Inky Antics (all the stamp images are by them as well) I prefer to use Tombow’s Mono Glue Stick. It is perfect for the thin papers and adheres so well to cardstock. The adhesive I used for the rest of the card was Mono Adhesive Permanent.

I hope you are enjoying our color month and will give these “colors of the year” a try in your papercrafting.

this kind of project is perfect to get them going. i teach the 12-13 year old girls at church and for one of their weekly activities they wanted to scrapbook the pictures from their girl’s camp experience. i empathized with this desire, as my first attempt at scrapbooking was with pictures from when i went to girl’s camp. (i share with you the pictures of my first scrapbook, hoping that the girls in the pictures won’t kill me!)

to create this project i used pattern paper from Basic Grey (it’s their pet line!), Tombow Glue Stick, Tombow Stamp Runner Permanent Adhesive and chipboard (remember my ice cream album? yup, same stash of chipboard laying around!) it was sized at 8 1/2 x 11, so i simply cut it in half. i got some white cardstock that was also 8 1/2 x 11 and cut that in half too. i used three pieces of pattern paper to cover the chipboard front and back cover, and to create the tent. using the remains of of the pattern paper i decorated the inside pages with stripes on the sides of the pages.
when it was done i used my crop-a-dile to punch hole and added rings to bind it together.

the best thing about this for these girls and any other young creative mind, was that there was very little instruction needed and then they could create all on their own.
i also provided camping themed stickers and a bucket full of Tombow Dual Brush Pens and they went to town!
at some point down the road i might pass on a few pointers about scrapbooking, but for now they have a great memory album keepsake of their crazy hot summer camping!

by the way…

to put the tent on the front cover…
1. use the Tombow Glue Stick and Tombow Stamp Permanent Adhesive Runner to layer a piece of pattern paper over the chipboard. i had them use the glue stick combined with the Stamp Runner to get a full coverage, without being and “adhesive abuser” with the tape runners. with the Stamp Runner they were able to apply adhesive tot he corners and along the edge, and then go back over it with the Glue Stick.

2. cut a second piece the same size as the cover, cut a slit up the middle of the paper, stopping about an inch from the top.
3. then apply glue to the top and edges of the paper and layer over the first pattern paper piece on the front cover.
4. fold back the paper to create tent flaps and glue in place using the Stamp Runner again.
5. i inserted brads as well. this could be done before gluing to the front cover, or after by cutting the prongs off the brad, then using Tombow MONO Multi to set them.

I am so excited with this weeks team up! We are teaming up with Inky Antics. My first rubber stamps were Inky Antics and I am blessed to be on their team as well as Tombow’s!

I received two stamp sets from Inky Antics. 11028MC Monkey Honey Pops, HCP-PRN green and HCP-BRN brown honey comb paper and 11032MC Bazooples #1 Clear Set.

Here is my Honey Pops card.

These are sooo much fun to create and imagine the smile on the recipient’s face when they open this card.

Inky Antics has a video you can watch to show how very simple these are to create.

Next up, I created a fun notepad using the Bazooples set I received. To make my notepad I used scraps from several cards I made for CHA for the Inky Antics booth.

I colored the giraffe with Tombow’s Dual Brush Pens and Irojiten Colored Pencils. I used Tombow’s Mono Adhesive Permanent for all my adhesive on both projects except for adhering the Honey Pop and I used their Mono Glue Stick which is perfect for this!

Using up scraps is a great way to keep them from collecting AND this notepad makes a nice gift.

Here is a peek at the inside:

i work well with schedules…and likewise i *think* my kids do too…. i needed a schedule for the summer to keep us on track. can’t have wii going all the time or too many lazy days when you sit around and let the house and let it implode around you. chores still need to be done, my homework still needs to get done, bills still need to be paid, and we have places to go! so i put together a 1/2 hourly schedule that can be manipulated and changed as needed each day.

it is long…very long, but i had to fit in the whole day. (oh, and i promise i don’t micro-manage my children…although it certainly appears that way doesn’t it. oops!) the schedule itself is cardstock and pen. just used a ruler and wrote in the times of the day. i had to use three strips of pattern paper & three strips of cardstock, two pieces of 12×12 paper per child to make the background. i attached the background strips together with Tombow Mono Permanent Adhesive Runner, and the activity cards i used Tombow Glue Stick to get a full coverage application.

in the past when i made one of these schedules i used clipart and google images and found pictures for all of our activities… this time, however, i have one reader and another on the way, so i chose to write out the activities in text boxes.

once i had my wording (or images) i printed them on cardstock and cut them out, then matted them onto more cardstock to make them sturdy. i have two children, a girl and a boy. so his schedule is blue and all the activity pieces are blue. hers…well, you get the idea, right?

in the center of each of the 1/2 hour blocks of time and on the back of each activity piece i put a piece of the Tombow Fastener Tabs. now the kids have their own color-coded schedule and i may have a little piece of sanity for the next two months. did i mention i love the summer?

stick around this week…as we kick off summer, vacations, and america’s favorite past-times! p.s if you want the schedule last longer than the summer…laminate it and all the itty bitty pieces. and take care lifting the activity pieces from the schedule. they work really well! and you don’t want to bend the pieces while you move them around.

as a teacher i have to find products that work for me and my students. they are 4 turning 5 and oh so cute. but their little hands have a hard time with glue bottles, and i have a hard time with glue sticks that don’t work.

solution? Tombow MONO adhesive runners and glue sticks!

once the little ones get a feel for the applicators, what angle to hold it at, what direction to move it in, and how much pressure they need to give to get the adhesive to come out, they are grabbing any scrap of paper they can find just to stick it together! now i will say, that i don’t put the adhesive runners out for everyday use, cause they would go a little crazy and they may need the 5 step plan for adhesive abusers! but when putting together paper bag puppets, cards or a quick stick for small items being sorted it is the best thing around. no drying times!

and the glue stick…oh the glue stick…how wonderful the yellow glue stick is that it doesn’t dry out! i put up the kids artwork on the walls and after a couple of weeks pieces will start falling off their beautifully crafted collage. the other glue sticks continue to dry, and will dry so much that it won’t hold the items to the paper anymore.and the best news of all it’s NON TOXIC! eat that paste eaters….actually, don’t, it still tastes pretty gross!

so instead, grab the yellow tube! it doesn’t get goopy like some other glue sticks i’ve tried either!

but you know that these aren’t just for kids in the classroom. i like a quick stick too! no white wet glue oozing off the edge of a project, or taking the time to roll clear tape when putting projects together. as a teacher i also do quite a bit of laminating. and call me a perfectionist, but i really don’t like the raised rectangluar shape that shows up when you’ve used clear tape to put two pieces of paper together and then laminated. i use my MONO permanent adhesive runner to keep the papers together, and then when it is laminated there is not a hint of any embossed/raised blemish on my work.

i know i have used many other Tombow products…MONO Aqua to repair broken toys (better to be a porous material), Powerbond to make a rotation chart by adhering laminated pattern papers to a foam core board, and using the MONO Multi to make clipboards for my assistant teachers! in this picture i decorated the front of a 4×6 photo album. i take pictures of the science related activities we do and put the pictures in here. i loved the sticker letters (doodlebug designs) but i was worried about little fingers picking at them. i coated the album cover with MONO Aqua, put my stickers down the way I wanted them, and then coated over the letters with the MONO Aqua again. i did this in august, and still seven months later my letters are still in tact.

so my advice, don’t hoard the Tombow, share it all around, even in the classroom!

are you a teacher? or have you used Tombow products for educational kinds of projects? let me know….i have a long career in the education system staring at me in the face!

This fun bookmark would make a great “Mommy & Me” project. My boys are teens now with one off to college very soon, but the next time my nephew comes over, I think we might make one of these together.

The “mommy” part comes from using an exacto knife to cut out the heart center.

The original pattern called for fabric to show thru the heart. That’s what I did here.

I think it would be fun to put a child’s school picture behind the heart and give to a grandparent who loves to read or even for themselves. You could also have the child draw a picture that would show thru the heart.

My “baby” is 15, but I had him make one (as he is ALWAYS needing a bookmark) to show how that would work. As you can see, he is VERY talented!

He even “drew” the wording for his bookmark and came up with it himself. It has a double meaning. “Tight” as in the boy tightly fits in the heart opening and “tight” as when you shut the book. Clever huh? Ü

I used Tombow’s Mono Glue Stick and it worked perfectly. I wanted to make sure it would since I plan to try this with my 4 year old nephew some time. Obviously the Mono Adhesives would work as well.
