Hi friends, it’s Carola and in this post, I’ll show you one way to get inspired by patterns found in nature and practice creativity on-the-go.
I’m lucky enough to live in British Columbia, Canada, where I’m surrounded by beautiful scenery and wildlife. When I go on hikes and nature walks, I carry a small sized notebook (usually Field Notes) with me to document my surroundings. One of my favorite ways to practice creativity is sketching patterns that I see in nature – such as tree barks.
Supplies Used:
- MONO Drawing Pen, 3-Pack (https://www.tombowusa.com/mono-drawing-pen-3-pack.html)
- Dual Brush Pen Art Markers, Cottage, 10-Pack – 910 and 992 (https://www.tombowusa.com/dual-brush-pen-art-markers-cottage-10-pack.html)
- Grid notebook (Field Notes)
Process of documenting patterns found in nature:
To create this layout, I divided two pages into even boxes (eight in total), separated by a hand lettered description. Using MONO Drawing Pens in 01, 03, and 05, I sketched different tree barks that I came across.
It doesn’t have to be perfect so just focus on practicing line work. To add a bit of color, I used two Dual Brush Pens from the Cottage set (992 and 910), but this is optional.
The next time you’re taking a walk, I encourage you to take a notebook and pens along with you to study nature’s patterns! There’s so much creative inspiration around us and it’s fun to document it.
