Hi all, Carola here to show you how to sketch a retro illustration using pencils! I used Tombow MONO Drawing Pencils to draw a camera in a few simple steps.
The MONO Drawing Pencils are great for artists, architects, and writers because they are precise. The quality and crispness in lines is useful for detailed sketching.
I love drawing with pencils because you can layer the illustration by using different points. Doing this allows you to have light and dark lines as well as shadows and shading.
Supplies Used:
- MONO Drawing Pencil – HB, B, 4B (https://www.tombowusa.com/8900-drawing-pencils-hb.html))
- MONO Natural Eraser (https://www.tombowusa.com/mono-natural-eraser.html)
- Maruman SOHO Sketch paper
Process:
To create this retro camera illustration, I first used the HB pencil and drew a light sketch. The lines easily erase, using a MONO Natural Eraser, which is helpful to get a final outline.
Then, I drew on top with a B pencil, which gave me thicker lines. This pencil is great for straight lines and adding in details to make them stand out a bit darker.
Finally, I used a 4B pencil to include shadows. You can also add some depth with a bit of shading.
I love how the MONO Drawing Pencil series work so well together, whether you’re using them for writing or drawing. I encourage you to sketch an illustration!
