How to Color Lips:
First off, let me show you how to color realistic lips using the ABT PRO Alcohol-Based Markers and Irojiten Colored Pencils!
Step one:
To begin, look up a photo of lips to use as a reference in both your sketch and your coloring. Then, sketch out your design on your page. I found a photo of lips with star confetti on Pinterest.
Need help drawing lips? Jessica posted a great tutorial here for drawing lips. This will help with finding the shapes and defining them.
Step two:
Begin by blocking in the light and medium colors on your lips with your lightest colors. I am using the Pink Tones Set of ABT PRO Markers. So, I’m coloring the lips with P800 and P703. Be mindful of where you place the ink. Try not to color into any areas you wish to leave white for now (the highlights, stars and teeth).
Step three:
Add in the darker pink tones to the shaded area of your lips. You can color back over the tones with the lighter colors to blend everything together.
I think the ABT PRO Markers are perfect for this type of illustration. They blend so beautifully and are very vibrant!

At this point, you can also use the Gray Tones to lightly shade the teeth and inside of the mouth.
Step four:
Time to break out the Irojiten Colored Pencils! This step is optional, but you can add a lot more detail and some texture by layering colored pencils over top of the alcohol ink art.
Use your Irojiten Colored Pencils to color in the stars and add depth. You can see I added creases and lines below.
How to make Lip Galentine’s Day Cards:
I wanted to use my lip drawing to make some Galentine’s Day cards. Plus, I love how they look paired with the radical self-love scrapbook kit from Papercakes by Serena Bee .
To make your own, scan your lip drawing, resize it however you want and print out several copies on cardstock. Cut them out and use the Power Mini Glue Tape to adhere them onto scrapbook paper. Layer them with Galentine’s Day embellishments.
Next, write an uplifting message on the back and pass them out to your gal pals. You could also leave them around your town as a part of Tombow’s Sharing Art Matters project!
Happy Galentine’s Day! Remember how amazing you are. 🙂
