How to Draw an Eye Using the MONO Drawing Pencil Set 3

Hey everyone, Katie here from Studio Katie! Today, I want to show you a simple guide on how to draw an eye using pencils. One of my favorite things to draw when I’m killing time (you know those doodles, while you’re on the phone or waiting for your computer to update..) is an eye. They’re easy and so fun. Let me show you!

Supplies:

• Tombow MONO Drawing Pencil Set
• Sketch paper
• Tombow MONO Zero Eraser, Rectangle

Step One:

The MONO Drawing Pencil Set comes with 12 degrees, 4H, 3H, 2H, H, F, HB, B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B and 6B. For a simple doodle, I like to just use a pencil in the middle of the range. As you can see, MONO Drawing Pencil F is a favorite and is well used.

Start by drawing the shape of the eye. Think of it as an almond or leaf shape.

Step Two:

Add a curved line above for the upper eyelid and a thin line along the bottom of the eye for the bottom eyelid.

Draw a circle inside for the iris.

Step Three:

Add the eyelashes. At this point, I like to switch to a darker degree pencil. So, I’m using MONO Drawing Pencil 4B. It is softer and blacker. Sharpen it to draw fine and dark eyelashes.

Focus on adding thicker lashes to the top of the eye and finer/more spread out lashes to the bottom eyelid.

Step Four:

Add in a smaller circle for the pupil. Shade it in using MONO Drawing Pencil 4B. Here you can also add in a couple of “lights” to the eye. This means to just add a couple of white shapes to show where a light source would be reflected in the eye.

Step Five:

You can stop here or you can also use other pencil degrees and shade the eye for a more realistic look!

Drawing and shading eyes are a fantastic way to practice how to use a range of drawing pencils!

I like to use the MONO Zero Eraser for clearing up any messy lines or adding highlights back into the shaded areas!

Step six:

If you want to add one last fun touch to your drawing, try sketching in some cute objects around the eye! I added stars and flowers.

Try changing the expression of your eye drawing by changing the direction your character is looking by moving the placement of the iris or the shape of the eyebrow!
