Hey, Sara Hynes here to help you spread some kindness with DIY Bookmarks! Random acts of kindness can bring so much joy to the world. Here in Minnesota, we have “Little Free Libraries” — small structures where people can take or leave books. I thought it would be fun to spread a bit of kindness by leaving bookmarks in one near my house. Even if you don’t have a Little Free Library nearby, you can leave your bookmarks at a local coffee shop, library, or hand them out to friends who love to read. Let’s get started!
What You’ll Need:
- Dual Brush Pen, Pastel, 10-Pack
- Marker paper
- MONO Graph Mechanical Pencil
- Fudenosuke Brush Pen, Hard Tip, Black
- Scissors
- MONO Glue Stick
- Laminator (optional)
Step 1: Cut Your Paper
Start by deciding the size of your bookmarks. I used my MONO Graph Mechanical Pencil to mark out 2 inches for each one. Then, cut out the bookmarks using scissors or a paper cutter. I made 9, but feel free to make as many as you’d like!
Step 2: Base Coloring
Once your bookmarks are cut, use the Dual Brush Pen Art Markers to add your base colors. I went with cute bees and inspiring quotes, but you can design anything that makes you smile!
Step 3: Add Details
Next, use darker colors and your Fudenosuke Brush Pen to add details and kind sayings. Let your creativity flow — try different color combinations, layering techniques, or patterns. It’s all about having fun!
Step 4: Laminating (Optional)
If you want to make your bookmarks more durable (especially if they’ll be outdoors), you can laminate them. Apply a dab of MONO Glue Stick to the back of each bookmark to keep them in place while laminating. Afterward, cut them to size.
Step 5: Place Them in the Library
Once your bookmarks are ready, add a little tag to a mason jar saying they’re free to take. I walked mine over to the Little Free Library by my house, and now they’re ready to bring joy to others.
I hope these bookmarks brighten someone’s day and inspire a little kindness! Want more fun craft ideas? Visit the Tombow blog for extra inspiration. And don’t forget to tag @sarahynesdesigns and @tombow when you create your own — I love seeing your work!
