Good morning y’all! Beth from @creativelybeth here to share an inspirational technique that can be used to create a magical unicorn wand! Be careful, though because the @TombowUSA Dual Brush Pen splash technique is extremely addictive!
Here’s what you will need to create a magical unicorn wand:
- Tombow Dual Brush Pens – 443, 725 and 606 from the Galaxy Set
- Tombow XL Blending Palette
- Mister from the Tombow Blending Kit
- Tombow MONO Twin Permanent Marker
- Tombow MONO Multi XL Liquid Glue
- Tombow Foam Tape
- Glossy Inkjet Photo Paper; Hug Snug Satin Seam Binding; Wooden Dowel; Scissors; Hole Punch; Purple Glitter; Plastic Zipper Bags (3); Paper Towels or Old Rag; Baby Wipes
STEP ONE
Scribble Dual Brush Pens randomly on the XL Blending Palette, spray lightly with water using the Mister, then place glossy inkjet photo paper shiny side down in the ink. Press and shift paper slightly with the palm of your hands. Carefully lift photo paper up from the corner to reveal the MAGIC of the splash technique! The ink dries instantly on the photo paper and creates a beautiful watercolor effect.
STEP TWO
Measure and cut three lengths of satin seam binding 72″ long. Scribble Dual Brush Pen 725 Rhodamine Red on the XL Blending Palette. Spray the seam binding and the ink lightly with the Tombow Mister. Turn a plastic zipper bag inside out to use as a”glove” and smoosh the seam binding into the ink until all the color has been absorbed. Pick up seam binding, turn bag right side out and set aside. Repeat with Dual Brush Pen 443 Turquoise and 606 Violet. Place colored seam binding on paper towels or old rags and let dry overnight. I use baby wipes to clean my palette between colors.
STEP THREE
Color the wooden dowel with Dual Brush Pen 725 Rhodamine Red, using the side of the brush tip.
STEP FOUR
Download and print Unicorn PATTERN. Cut out and trace Unicorn head pattern on splash technique background paper, then flip the pattern and trace the second outline in the reserve direction of the first using the fine tip of the MONO Twin Permanent Marker. Cut out neatly with scissors, cutting away the outline, so you have two clean finished Unicorn head outlines.
STEP FIVE
Draw a closed eye with eyelashes on each Unicorn with the fine tip of the MONO Twin Permanent Marker. Apply MONO Multi XL Liquid Glue to the Unicorn horn, sprinkle with purple glitter, then tap off excess and repeat with the second horn. Set aside to dry.
STEP SIX
Once glitter is dry, flip over, run a bead of MONO Multi XL Liquid Glue then insert dowel, and let dry.
Apply sections of Tombow Foam Tape around the dowel, peel back the liner paper and attach the second Unicorn head. Line up outlines and trim any excess with scissors.
STEP SEVEN
Punch holes along the back of the Unicorn’s neck. Cut each color of seam binding into three 24″ lengths. Fold each length of seam binding in half, thread each loop through each hole, then feed the ends through the loop and gently tighten to secure. This creates the Unicorn’s mane.
This Magical Unicorn Wand would make the perfect party favor or finishing touch to a Halloween costume! What colors would make YOUR Unicorn magical? I hope you will use my project as a jumping off point to showcase your Tombow creativity!
