The ocean is full of natural beauty; all you have to do is look at the different types of shells on the beach to see the amazing diversity of marine life it holds. Here’s a fun way to turn the shells you collect into gorgeous keepsakes from your favorite ocean destination. These Glittered Seashell Ornaments will remind you of the beach, and of the importance of protecting our oceans.
How to Make Glittered Seashell Ornaments
One of the most fun things about this project is how easily it can be customized to create totally unique finished products. By changing the size and color of the glitter and how much of the shell you apply it to, you can make each ornament one-of-a-kind. You can also customize your ornaments by using all different types of shells that you collect from the beach.
Materials
- Seashells, any size and shape
- Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue
- Loose Glitter, your choice of colors
- Twine or metallic cord
- Scissors
Instructions
1. Apply MONO Aqua Liquid Glue to the areas of the shell that you want to sparkle.
I use this particular glue because it has a strong, permanent bond, and it dries totally clear. Also, the dual tip applicators allow for more control over where you apply the glue. Use the broad silicon tip for large areas and the smaller pen tip for fine details.
2. Sprinkle loose glitter on top of the wet glue.
3. Gently tap the shell to remove excess glitter.
I like to do this over top of a sheet of computer paper, then funnel the extra glitter back into the container to be used for another project. Let your glue dry completely before moving on to the final step.
4. Use your Liquid Glue or Tombow Adhesive Dots to add a hanger to the back of the shell.
I used gold cord, but you can also make your hanger from twine or ribbon. Just cut a 5” piece and tie the ends together in a knot, then glue/adhere the knot to the back of the shell.
Did you know…if your MONO Aqua Liquid Glue runs out, you can buy a refill instead of a whole new applicator?
Once the glue is dry, your ornament is ready to display! Whether you use it for Christmas in July or save it for December, it’s a beautiful DIY beach souvenir.
