Make New Year’s Eve more fun by creating a DIY Balloon Confetti Popper. Grab a few basic supplies from around the house and your Tombow stash, and you’ll be ready to create these fun party favors for guests at your New Year’s party.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Tombow Dual Brush Pens in Bright Colors
- Tombow Fudenosuke Hard Tip Brush Pen
- Tombow MONO Permanent Adhesive +
- Scissors and hole punchers (variety of sizes)
- Mix Media Paper
- Tissue Paper
- Optional: Premade confetti, sequins, or glitter
- An empty toilet paper roll
- Patterned Scrapbook Paper
- A balloon
- Balloon ribbon
MAKE THE CONFETTI
Start by creating the confetti. You can start with a premade confetti, sequins, or glitter and then create your own to add with it.
Create hole punched confetti by coloring on a section of mix media paper with Tombow Dual Brush Pens. Then use scissors or a hole punch to hand punch pieces of confetti.
Tissue paper also makes great confetti. Use already colored tissue paper and cut small pieces of confetti. You could also add color to the tissue paper by coloring it with Tombow Dual Brush Pens. Gather all of the confetti in a small container and set aside until you have completed the popper.
CONSTRUCT THE POPPER
Cut a rectangle strip of patterned paper that will wrap around and cover the toilet paper roll. Make sure that the paper leaves about a half inch margin on the ends so that the ends of the roll can be wrapped in the paper, too.
Apply MONO Permanent Adhesive+ to the strip of patterned paper and slowly wrap around the toilet paper roll to adhere it. Fringe the edges of the paper that hang off of the ends, carefully apply some MONO+ to the inside of the paper and fold it around the edge of the toilet paper roll.
Create the popper by cutting the top off of a balloon. Apply MONO+ around the edge of the toilet paper roll on one end and then place the balloon around the rim, applying pressure so that the balloon stays in place. Tie the end of the balloon into a know to make sure that confetti stays in. You can also add another small strip around the bottom of the popper to cover the part of the balloon that is adhered to the roll.
EMBELLISH WITH LETTERING OR DOODLES
Cut a small piece of paper to create a tag. Write a fun phrase or doodle, such as Happy New Year or Yay, 2018 with a Fudenosuke Hard Tip Brush Pen.
Hole punch the paper to create a tag and attach it to the top of the popper with some fun balloon ribbon.
LOAD THE CONFETTI
Add in confetti to the popper, filling it up about half-way. You don’t want to over fill the confetti so that it is easier to launch.
3…2…1… POP THE CONFETTI!
When the clock strikes midnight, launch the confetti by gently pulling down on the knotted part of the balloon and letting go. The confetti will launch out of the top of the popper and is sure to bring lots of fun while ringing in the new year.
