CREATIVITY GALORE!

My Mind’s Eye has always been a favorite of mine…the company is always coming out with great products and designs. their collections are fabulous to work with, and this one was no exception. “Follow Your Heart” has a touch of vintage and whimsy, and it was so unlike my normal choice of patterns. there was so much of it i knew whatever project i did had to use as much as i possibly could!

i was intrigued and i hatched a plan…it took me a while to get the idea out of my head, but in the end, it turned out better than i hoped.

i saw this idea (yes, yes, i spend too much time checking out other blogs and pinterest!) but this ideas was to keep a stash of index cards and each day, or as often as possible, take the time at the end of the day to write your thoughts about the day, things that happened, funnies, tragedies, what have you. a journal, without using a bound book.

i created this box to hold these index cards and perhaps some pictures along the way. i titled the box 2013/365. which means that i’m saving it for 2013 (yes, i’m crazy! but i’m already doing something else to document 2012) and that i’ll attempt to do it for a full year. the dividers i created are blank, and more than likely i’ll do some scrapbooking on them. but putting them together was easy, and they look classy. i attribute that to the paper line!

using the 6×6 stack i trimmed them down to fit inside the box – 3×6. then i made them sturdier by backing them to each other with Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue. then using a circle punch i created tabs for the top of the dividers by folding them in half and gluing them down with the MONO Aqua.

inside the box is a quote, decorated with the very vintage mini chipboard banners. and the outside of the box buttons and paper were layered with Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue. and the metal paper clip was held down with an ultra sticky Power Tab.

i used Tombow MONO Permanent Adhesive Runner to put paper to paper and a Dual Brush Pen to help ink up some of the edges on the paper.

so yes, now i am officially crazy, but i am officially ready for 2013. but you don’t have to wait that long. create a box and start today. document your life!

WOW! Two of my favorite companies team up this week on Tombow!! If you follow my blog, you know how much I love My Mind’s Eye. I love that their double sided papers allows you to mix and match to your heart’s content. Ü MME really spoiled the DT with all the goodies they sent us.

I used Tombow’s Mono Adhesive Mega Roller to put these 3 cards together. With as much adhesive as I use, I think I will be using this product alot more. I also like how it feels in my hand and gives a smooth run of adhesive.

I also used Dual Brush Pen #N95 Cool Gray 1 to add shadows on each of the cards around the birds. The birds are precolored digis by Scrappin Doodles. I’ve been sick with bronchitis the past 10 days and this was a way I could make some quick and easy cards and still show off My Mind’s Eye paper and Tombow products.

I love the little pop up embellishments that My Mind’s Eye sent us. The box of goodies I received were all from the Miss Caroline line.

Be sure to stop by the Tombow and My Mind’s Eye blog this week to see all the goodies both design teams created.

A HUGE “Thank you” to My Mind’s Eye for all the goodies!! I will be showing more projects using the products they sent.

Thank you for stopping by,

Happy Friday Everyone!

This week my Tombow teammates and I are sharing projects with the “Luck of the Irish” theme in honor of St. Paddy’s Day tomorrow.

I created this card using stamps from the Our Craft Lounge Shamrock Blessings set.  One of my favorite ways to use Tombow Dual Brush Pens is to color directly on my stamps.  For this card I used the following colors:  098 Avocado, 177 Dark Jade, 665 Purple and 676 Royal Purple.  I started by coloring the lighter color of marker onto the stamp and then just tapping on a bit of the darker colors.  Give the stamp a little “huff” to re-moisten the ink and then stamp onto some cardstock.  I then stamped the sentiment right over the top of the image.  Now, some people call me an “adhesive hound” because I use many different adhesives on all of my projects from cards to 3D items.

I like to use Tombow Mono Dots Roller when I am holding patterned papers/cardstocks together as it has a nice strong hold and I can always be sure that my cards arrive at their destination safely together in one piece. Did you know that the roller is refillable? On this card I also used Tombow Mono Multi to add a thin line of adhesive down to hold this pretty May Arts trim in place. The final adhesive I used on this card was some Tombow Foam Tabs to pop up the sentiment panel.  When you do this, it adds a little extra dimension to your cards therefore adding interest.

Happy St. Patrick’s Week! This week the DT is sharing their Luck of the Irish themed projects. Do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day (this coming Saturday) in any way? I try to do something fun each year for the boys. One year when my youngest was 6 or 7 I was sick and wasn’t able to do anything. He said “this is the worst St. Patrick’s Day of my life!” I had to laugh and told himwe were probably the only ones that even celebrated it! LOL!!
So this year, we will again have green eggs and ham (and since it’s on Saturday, I plan to make some green pancakes as well) and green milk. (minus the green for me cuz it just looks gross Ü). I will also be making some fun rainbow food and have some goodies bought that my youngest (17) will enjoy. I’ve already sent a pkg to my son and his girlfriend filled with fun green and white and rainbow treats.
Okay, so now on to my card. Green is my favorite color, so St. Pat’s just has to be celebrated right? LOL! This card is created with a fun image from Designed2Delight. I love their digi images and this is one of my many favorites of Faith’s that she has designed.
I colored the image with Dual Brush Pens 098, 076, 992, 977, N75, and blender pen. I used Mono Adhesive Dots to adhere the layers of cardstock.

Thank you for stopping by and have a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday!

To easily transfer a pattern onto thick paper, such as watercolor paper, make your own graphite paper using Tombow Drawing Pencils.

Take a copy of your pattern (My favorite is source is copy-right free Clip Art from Dover Publications) and with a 5B Drawing Pencil, cover the backside of the pattern with graphite.

Use Removable Adhesive and adhere the pattern to the paper you will be working on. With a 4H or harder Drawing Pencil trace the pattern.

When you lift up the pattern, you will see the image transferred onto your paper. With this project I inked the traced image with a permanent pen. I then used a MONO NP Eraser to remove the traced lines.

I finished the artwork with a Dual Brush Pen splash background and colored the violets with Irojiten Colored Pencils.

It’s that easy! Try it the next time you need to transfer a pattern onto a surface! Join us again for more Tipniques!

The theme this week for Tombow is Hugs. The fun thing about this challenge is that you can make a card/project for any occasion or the best occasion….”just because”. Can’t we all use a hug?

Cutting Cafe has a Hershey Kiss shaped box that I thought would be perfect for my project this week. I cut the box with watercolor paper and made raspberry stripes with Dual Brush Pen #837 Wine Red.

**Tip: to sponge edges to match ink color; color on plastic with Dual Brush Pen and pick up with a sponge, then sponge the edges.

I used Mono Multi glue on the tabs to glue the box together. I stamped 0031D Consider Yourself from Inky Antic’s and adhered it with Mono Adhesive Permanent to the box.

Then just filled cello bag with Hershey Raspberry Hugs and tied off with a bow. Wouldn’t this just brighten your day….”just because”?

This week on the Tombow blog is ABC (anything but a card) week so I decided to cover this little wooden bird.  I bought this at my “not so local” big box store and wish I had purchased a couple of extras as it was a lot of fun to decorate.

I started by painting all of the edges of the bird with some white acrylic paint and then I slathered on some Tombow Mono Aqua adhesive and adhered my strips of Kaisercraft paper.  This adhesive dries quickly and doesn’t bubble.  Ya gotta love that!  I trimmed the paper off as close as I could and then used a sanding block to get the paper trimmed right to the edges.  I did both sides this way.  Next, I went around the edges of the bird with Tea Dye Distress ink.  I added the piece of white lace where the two different papers met.  I used a little more of the Mono Aqua for this.  The seam didn’t look finished so I decided add a row of buttons.
I laced the buttons together with some linen thread and then added Tombow Power Tabs to the back of each one.  I cut the Power Tabs into smaller pieces for the smaller buttons.         Power Tabs are very strong and the buttons were secured nicely.

I then started adding rhinestone embellishments, crinkle ribbon and flowers.
As you can see in the picture above, the flower was a bit brighter than what I needed for my project so I decided to distress it a bit with some Tombow Dual Brush Pens.  I used:  228 Gray Green, 312 Holly Green and 346 Sea Green.  I scribbled the markers onto a non stick craft sheet (a plastic art palette would also work well) and then spritz the scribbles with some home made pearlized water (Pearl-Perfect Pearls and water) and lightly blended the colors with my finger and then dipped the top of the flower randomly to add some color.  Set the flower aside to dry or you could use your heat gun, just be careful not to burn yourself or the flower.

This is a great project for children and teens. There is a really nice YouTube presentation of traditional black and white friendship bracelets – this is a colorful Tombow version using the Dual Brush Pens.

Start by cutting strips 8 ½” x ¾” from ordinary cover stock paper. You will also need to cut ¾” strips from overhead transparencies or other clear plastic sheet.

Choose your Dual Brush Pen colors – the best color combinations are those that are close together on the color wheel – some suggestions include:  Greens and Blues: 195 Light Green, 373 Sea Blue, and 565 Deep Blue, Pinks and Purples: 725 Rhodamine Red, 665 Purple, and 606 Violet, Oranges and Reds: 933 Orange, 725 Rhodamine Red and 815 Cherry.

Draw the designs onto the paper strip – you can get lots of design ideas from the Zentangle Books from Design Originals.

Use the Dual Brush Blender Pen and blend all the colors together. Let dry.

With Clear Adhesive apply two strips of adhesive to the top of the colored paper strip. Place the clear strip over and rub firmly with a bone folder.

Trim the bracelet to a ½” strip and to a length to fit around your wrist.  Cut a Fastener Tab in half and apply to the ends of the bracelet. It’s now ready to wear and share with friends!

This is such a fun project, I hope you enjoyed it and hope you share this with all your friends and tean that enjoy making their own Frienship bracelets.Until next time…

Happy Crafting…

How do you like my sentiment? HAHA! I even thought of that myself. This week on Tombow we are focusing on the Irojiten colored pencils. My favorite way to color is using colored pencils and Gamsol, so this is a fun challenge for me.

This is a card I created for CHA and those that took the class loved it. They had alot of fun coloring the image and using the Irojiten pencils for the first time.

The colored pencils I used are:

Rain Forest: D03Autumn Leaf, D02 Chestnut Brown, P06 Ice Green, V06 Peacock Blue

Woodlands: P11 Rose Pink, P18 Celeste Blue, D15 Mustard, Lg02 Cork, D12 Maroon

Seascape: DL05 Verdigris

in addition:

Saddle Brown #977 was used to create the dots and dashes around the stamped image and Mono Adhesive Permanent to adhere all the pieces together.

I found out at CHA that the image from Stampavie is no longer available, but they do have a new owl image out. Patterned papers are by Echo Park.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful day filled with love and surprises.

i love making mini books to showcase one event or use up some of my favorite pictures.

i had a stack of “loving family” pictures… you know the ones that you capture a fleeting moment where siblings actually seem to like each other? and children are happy and not complaining?  we are trying (very hard) to be a loving family and i wanted to reinforce that as Valentine’s Day is approaching. so i used a mini album that had pages i could make into pockets to keep little notes that we will write to each other. i also wanted a place to keep more of those pictures of precious moments.

i used Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Adhesive to adhere the paper to the chipboard. i used Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Adhesive to secure the pockets, and i used Tombow Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive to secure all the paper and paper embellishments inside the album, as well as the ric rac ribbon on the front cover. the dot adhesive is perfect for this kind of ribbon, because it holds well and the excess dots rub clean away! i used a Dual Brush Pen, N15 black, to ink all the edges of the paper and the edges of the chipboard.

to keep the album closed i used a Tombow Power Tab on the back cover, under the circle, to secure a ribbon. then i set a brad on the front of the book on another cardstock circle. both circles were glued down with Tombow MONO Multi. this allows for the ribbon to be wound around the brad to hold the book closed.

i am keeping my fingers crossed this experiment will work…at least for a little while.
