While skimming through past posts I found that a lot of our projects are not only gift oriented but food oriented. Sharing recipes is just as special as sharing a secret. Add on to that a special layer of pretty paper and it’s probably the best gift ever! I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we all like to share our passions with others. Everyone from musicians playing music for others or authors sharing a good book, it’s almost a right of passage. Sharing things that you love with someone else is it’s own non-verbal way to show you care. For crafters giving a little gift that is presented in a special way or made from your own hands seems to send a message above and beyond the intended gift purpose.  This fun Peeps in a Jar project was so popular in the spring but doesn’t have to be just for the Easter. Have you seen the Red, White and Blue Star peeps out there? I know that they’re out with a vengeance during Valentines, Halloween and Christmas. Apparently these squishy candies are available all year round and with a little color tweaking this project works for anything. (and trust me, it’s yummy all year round!)

You can find April’s full instructions and recipe here.

If you liked this you might also like “Welcome to Holland” Tulip Cookies, Candy Bags (which would be adorable filled with trail mix for camp!), and Cherry Coke.  What about you? What have been your favorite gift posts? Remember that we’ll post a winner Monday. Enjoy your weekend!

I can’t take much credit for this cute little jar of goodies, a sweet friend of mine dropped a jar with these treats inside off to my family last year. I just loved it, and decided I wanted to make some this Easter for my kids to take to their schoolteachers. It’s a simple project, and my boys were able to do it all by themselves with only a little direction from Mom. :) I decided to use paper on the jar lid instead of fabric like my friend used, and I love the way it turned out!

(if your browser is having trouble viewing the slide show please just click on the image)

Items needed:

1 Wide mouth quart jar
1 package of graham crackers
1/3 C. brown sugar
1 1/2 C. Easter M&M’s
1 package of Peeps
ribbon
coordinating paper
Tombow MONO Metal Liquid Glue
Tombow Dual Brush Pen’s
tag

Crush one package of graham crackers into fine crumbs, pour into jar. My kids didn’t do the best job of this…they were too excited to get on to the candy. Put 8 peeps in the jar, facing out.Press 1/3 of a cup of brown sugar down in the center of the Peeps to help them stand up straight.Pour M&M’s over the brown sugar.Cut one 1/2 strip of 12×12 paper. Use Tombow Mono Metal Liquid Glue, lightly coat strip and then place it around the outside of the Jar ring.
Cut one 3″ circle of a coordinating paper, glue to the top lid.
Eat the remaining Peeps. Cut a 18 inch piece of ribbon. Lay it across the top of the jar, tuck it under the bottom of the jar, and then put the lid and ring on snugly.
Create a tag. I used an Imaginisce Acrylic stamp and my Tombow Dual brush pens to stamp a little design, and then placed a flower on the tag with a brad.Write the baking directions on the back of your tag. (Directions below)
Tie the tag on to the ribbon, tie the ribbon into a bow.

Directions for tag:
Empty the jar contents into a bowl. Snip the bunnies into bits with kitchen shears or cut up with a knife. Return the bunny bits to the mixture and mix well. Melt ½ c. butter, add 1 t. vanilla. Pour this over the dry ingredients, mixing well. Pat into a greased 8×8 baking dish. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Cool and cut into bars, or serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

I live far away from family and it’s something that has been hard on me and my family. So, I’m always thinking of ways to make the distance seem less, even if it’s for a few minutes. This card was super easy to make and so much fun! I love the file folder and accordion surprise inside! I used Mono PowerBond to adhere the journaling inside, Mono Aqua liquid glue for the ribbons and Mono Metal Liquid Glue to secure the ‘love’ dog tag on the inside. (the paper clip just holds up the journaling until the recipient is ready to open it up) If you have someone you love, be sure to tell them! Happy Wednesday!

I have tried being a digital scrapbooker, I have! Promise! Cross my heart. My brain (and my budget) tells me that it would be so much easier. Easier to reproduce, Easier to save, Easier to clean up! Less messy, Less expensive, Less space in my house, More portable, maybe even More professional. The list of pro’s for digital scrapbooking huge. I love the look of so many inspired designers going digi lately. I do! So…. I’ve tried learning it, I’ve tried printing it and I’ve tried, really tried to enjoy it.

And I’ve failed.

I can’t do it! The layouts are okay but to me there is always something missing. Yes, I am left feeling accomplished that I got something done and even happier it only took me 15 mins. per layout but I’m also left feeling empty. My heart is not in it. The creative void just isn’t filled for me. It’s like a PICTURE of a beautiful quilt that you can’t cuddle up underneath you or feel it’s softness.  When I create 100% digitally I don’t feel like I’ve touched anything. I know it’s important that the memories are preserved (and ultimately that’s wonderful) but, I don’t feel like the creative outlet side of me gets to come out in quite the same way.

A few weeks ago I got an email from Creating Keepsakes. Telling me that CK has a promotion with Shutterfly through the end of February! A free 8×8 scrapbook! All your digi pages printed and bound. My brain told me to do it. My heart told me I’d hate it. Since I’d only be out the $3.50 in shipping I ordered one to at least try it out. I spent less than an hour and made a 2009 year in review album. Not only did I love it but I found a way to satisfy my head and my heart! Once it came back, I wanted to infuse a little more of my personality into it. So I pulled out a few flat embellishments, my favorite adhesives, a dual brush pen for journaling and got busy! I love the finished look and think I’ve learned that I love hybrid layouts! I’ll definitely be doing more of these in the future. What are you waiting for- go order yourself one and show us your own ‘add-ons’!

I know the blog’s been abandoned over the last few days- I’ve had a compter crisis.  Lucky for me my best friend is a IT Engineer and was able to save all my work from the land of lost data. So now that the problem is fixed be sure to check back often. I’ll be updating everyday and hopefully I’ll even do some back posting for a few of the days I missed.  It’s a new year. New goals, new ideas!  One of my new years goals this year is to be better at sending birthday cards. Specifically to my nieces and nephews.

IMG_0466I’ve made a few of these fun birthday boxes for friends and family over the years but never finished mine. The idea is that each month there is a index card (or two) with everyone’s birthday’s or special events. You can pull out the card and put it on your bulletin board for the month to remind you when/who to send to. I finally finished mine this past week. I love the pictures of everyone each month.  Continue Reading

I love Year-in-Review layouts and themes. There is something about seeing the overall yearly growth and memories all in one spot that ramps up the emotions for me and this time of year is just begging to review the past…

This layout is the first complete year of my son’s life. The colors are the colors of his favorite blanket and the photos were just ones the really highlighted something important that happened with him that month. All the little metal embellishments are put on with MONO Metal Liquid Glue and the ribbons were attached using the MONO Adhesive Roller on the back.

IMG_0503This is a blank layout. Just add your pictures after the holiday. It’s super simple and requires just a few minutes and supplies. I think the best part of this layout is the great metal embellishments. I just punched the cardstock and threaded craft wire, adding a few random Christmas beads then at the end I slipped on a monogram charm. I used MONO Metal Liquid Glue after it was all put together so that everything would stay in place and I wouldn’t be losing the shape or the other embellishments.

I admit it, since I made Owen’s little family board book (and I love it!) I decided to make a grown up version for myself. Christmas 2002! Because this book was so chunky, I opted to accent with chucky metal and heavy inking throughout. Continue Reading

IMG_0378I love, Love, LOVE the look of paper piecing. I love the added dimension and detail. The problem is I rarely have the time, patience or precision to do it. While I was designing a few Christmas cards this year I decided to be super ambitious and have the main accent paper pieced. I found a great stamp and decided to alter it a bit with paper piecing and a few fun 3-D accents. I just raided my scraps and strings, then stamped the image and cut it out.  I used Tombow MONO Glue Pen for the tiny pieces and for the itsy-bitsy bell (that really jingles!) I used the MONO Metal Liquid Glue.  The kids have been jingling it all week so I know it will hold that bell on all season. They turned out perfectly and were a breeze to make…it definitely surprised me. Who knows, I might start piecing more!
