Can you believe it, it’s April already?   The first quarter of 2012 just flew by.  Speaking of flying, I will be taking a little trip to New York soon to visit my sweet niece, Kelly and I have been busy trying to figure out what to wear as the weather seems to be changing day by day.

This brings me to these sweet little notepads as I have been making lists of things that I can’t forget to take.  I am trying not to check any luggage so everything must go into a carry on duffel/duffle (apparently both spellings are correct, pick your favorite) bag and tote bag.

This week the Tombow team has been sharing projects created using Tombow’s Fastener Tabs.  If you don’t know what Tombow’s Fastener Tabs are, you are missing out!  These are little self adhesive velcro tabs that are amazingly easy to use and so very strong.  Me likey!
The little note pads are 3.5 x 5 inches in size and I picked up a pack of five for a buck at my local drug store.  For the first pad, I cut a piece of paper 3.5 x 12 from the We R Memory Keepers Good Day Sunshine collection and positioned the pad inside using Tombow’s Mono Multi adhesive on the back of the pad to ensure that it was firmly attached and would not fall out.  The green and teal decorative pieces of paper were attached with Tombow Mono Dots Roller and for each of the flowers and greenery I used Tombow Mono Aqua as it dries quickly and clearly.  I added a dollup of Mono Aqua to the center of each flower and poured on some gold Gala Glitz for a little pop.  The Tombow Fastener Tab is under the sentiment flap(see below) allowing for a strong closure for the cover.
My second note pad has a side opening.  After I cut the strip of paper I pulled out my Spellbinders Labels 20 die and cut the edge only of the strip to create the pretty scalloped flap.  A Tombow Fastener Tab is under the flap holding the notepad closed nice and tight.  I added some thin glitter letters to the notebook. I have had these glitter letters for sometime and they had lost their sticky so I added some Tombow Mono Multi to the back and they were good to go!
Scribble a little Tombow Mono Multi to the back of the notepads and you will be sure that they will stay in place and not fall out when you open the cover.

Did you know that you can easily cut the Tombow Power Tabs to fit whatever size you need?  For the ribbon, I only needed a little strip so I just cut a tab with my scissors and I was good to go!

These two pictures show how the Tombow Fastener Tabs are neatly applied to the flaps of the notepads.  Love this!

This week we are playing with our Tab Fasteners and I want to share this cute mini backpack. Is really easy to make, I promise :0)

Sometimes we shy away from projects like this because we think is too hard but this was really easy to make, take it from me, probably the slowest scrapbooker ever!! It will take you only a 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock sheet for the base and for the decorations you can use scraps like I did. I took a 10 1/4 x 5 1/4 and I scored the wide part at 3 1/2 then I turned it around and I scored at 3, 4 3/4, 7 3/4 and 9 1/2. Cut the score lines of the bottom part, below the score line. To make the backpack flap I used a 3 x 2 1/2 cardstock  and score at 1/2. To make it round I used a plate since I don’t have the tool for making circles. For the pocket you need a piece of  3 x 2 cardstock and you should score it at 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 on the sides and at the bottom. Cut out the squares in the bottom corners to make the folding easier. To make the little flap for the pocket use a 1 1/2 x 2 piece of cardstock  and score at 1/4 and 1/2 on the top long side. As I did with the backpack flap to make it round you can use a tool, a plate or anything round. Don’t glue anything yet!! Just have all your pieces.

After all the scoring you turn the page around and you are going to have a little flap to put the backpack together, one of the sides, the front of the backpack, another side and the back. You are going to see a little rectangle in the left bottom, cut it out. Using the Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive I covered the front of the backpack with a less busy patterned paper. Glue the backpack flap to the back of the backpack with the little flap on the inside. Cover the visible part of the flap with a busier or darker patterned paper, do the same with the pocket flap. On the exact score line punch two holes 3/4 from the border, this is for the ribbon on top. In the back make four holes, the two in the top are going to be on the center, close to each other but remember that you need space for eyelets (these are optional but they reinforce the holes, avoiding ripping). The two on the bottom should be close to the corners. For the top ribbon I used 6 inch ribbon and for the ones in the back I used two 8 inch ribbon. You can tie the ribbon or you can use your Power Tabs or Mono Multi Liquid Glue to glue the ribbon inside. Remember to keep the same distance in both ribbons. Now you can put it together, Glue the bottom with the Mono Multi Liquid Glue and the little flap to close the sides. Is super easy to make the little pocket just fold the sides and glue the corners where they touch in the back bottom on the top add the flap, there you will have a frame. You will glue this frame to the backpack using the Mono Multi Liquid Glue. And now the star of the show!! The Fastener Tabs!! Since they come with adhesive on both sides I placed the tab, without separating the velcro, on the flap and I closed it. It worked AMAZING!! For the little pocket I used a little less of half of a tab, same method. Just added a little stack of buttons and Ta-Da!!

I made this A2 card (4 1/4 x 5 1/2) so you can understand how tiny this backpack will be. For the card I used the Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive and the Foam Tabs for the sentiment and the chipboard sticker.

Do you think you will give this a try?? Show us at the Tombow Facebook Page!!

This week’s Tipnique is all about the wonderful new Fastener Tabs! They are fantastic for use as a closure on any object you want to open over and over again – like this paper wallet to show off your Zentangle tiles! What? You don’t know what a Zentangle is? Check out the official Zentangle site!

Here is the finished wallet shown closed. The wallet is made with 90 lb. watercolor paper for durability and to be able to tangle and color nicely.  MONO Multi Liquid Glue was used to put it all together. I used Dual Brush Pens and a Glue Pen as a resist to color the tangles. Click here see a video of me demonstrating this color resist method.

Here is a close-up of the Fastener Tab. I have cut it in half before placing in on the wrap-around band. It is ultra thin – perfect when working with paper items such as cards and packages. The Tabs are long lasting and pre-paired so they are easy to use.

This view shows the inside of the wallet filled with 12 finished tiles. Use the wallet to share your tiles, or as a way to present them as a gift.

Tangle on! A word of warning: coloring your tangles is very addictive! Join me next week for another Tipnique using Power Tabs.

Hello and happy Friday to each and every one of you.  Today I am sharing a door hanger that I made for my studio door.

I started with a blank Basswood door hanger from my not so local craft store and then slathered it with a nice coating of Tombow Mono Aqua Adhesive and then started adding pieces of paper from the Prima Songbird collection.  The nice thing about this adhesive is that it gives you a little of time to play and move things around if you want, it does not buckle the paper and it dries clear and quick.  Next I added the crochet trims using Tombow Mono Multi Adhesive.  I like this adhesive for things that are a little heavier like ribbons and trims and embellishments.  The flowers were cut from the MFT Prima Donna Petals Die-namics  Die set.  The flowers and the chipboard heart button were attached with Tombow Power Tabs.

The chipboard letters were white and glittery and I wanted them to coordinate with the rest of the papers and trimmings so I colored them with Tombow Dual Brush Pens.

Wishing you a happy, crafty weekend!

For this ABC Week I have another layout.

For this layout I started with a sketch that I didn’t use exactly but it gave me a few ideas. I started with 4 squares that measure 4 1/4 and using my Tombow Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive I arranged them in a 9 inch dark brown square to make them pop. I used the Tombow Dual Brush Pens to doodle on each square and on the border of the page. I love matting my pages with the Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive because is durable, acid free and it doesn’t wrinkle the photos. I placed the photo on the right first because on the one on the left I used the Tombow Foam Tabs to make that photo stand out and hide a journaling tag behind it. On that same photo I used some dimensional stickers and in the part that is not attached to the photo I used Tombow Foam Tabs.  On the top of the layout next to the cardstock sticker I made a flower with a brad on the center but instead of piercing the paper I used a Tombow Power Tab. I added a few stickers, brads and, punch outs to the layout. The big pennant is a wood piece and I used the Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue to glue the paper, after it was dry I just used my craft knife to cut around it. I did more doodling with the Dual Brush Pens and to decorate I used a trim tape, a cardstock sticker and a big dimensional sticker. I wanted to give the illusion of a wall hanging so I glued twine behind the piece and used a brad as a nail.

Maybe you don’t feel the love for brads, just tuck the prongs behind it and use a Power Tab it will work great!!

I hope you liked this layout!!

my ABC challenge for the month…yes, another layout.

these pictures of my kids are from Easter 2008! oy…i couldn’t get the two of them to cooperate. i didn’t get a decent picture that day. i’ve held onto these pictures for several years because i didn’t want to scrapbook them. i was too frustrated with the way they came out.

but now, looking back…THEY WERE SO CUTE! still frustrating, but cute.

i had my goodies still out from last week’s team-up with My Mind’s Eye, so I kept going. so many goodies to work with.

this is layout #10 for the year. if i’m going to keep on track i better step up the pace…

remember the picture i used last week? yup, well the same equation worked out for me again this week. Tombow + My Mind’s Eye (- the box) = Creativity Galore

i still had out my Tombow MONO Permanent Runner and Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue. i remember a time when i was afraid to use liquid glue when putting paper and paper together. it always warped and got wrinkly. but on this layout i used Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue to glue down the “jaggeed” edges of the left border. it was easy to get a small dot of glue underneath.

enjoy your spring and Easter events…and may your pictures come out better than mind did!

TGIF!

This week my fellow Tombow teamies and I have been sharing projects that we created using products from My Mind’s Eye.

I received a wonderful selection of goodies from the Follow Your Heart-Be Amazing collection.
For my first card, I used some of the papers from the 6 x 6 pad to create
little hills and then stamped the bicycle and sentiment in Adirondack Espresso ink and added some stitching with Tombow Dual Brush Pen #879 (Brown) and sun rays with #991 (Light Ochre).  I also added a bit of #991 to the edges of the chipboard button in the center of the sun rays. I used Tombow Mono Dots Roller to adhere the paper layers and a Power Tab to attach the chipboard button for the sun.
For my next card, I used some of the paper from the 6 x 6 pad to create a backdrop for the Tilth Floral die from Memory Box.  I tied some My Mind’s Eye twine around the card and to the center of the button.  Remember, no naked buttons..:) It just takes a second to finish them off with twine, floss or even a narrow ribbon.  Mono Dots Roller was used to adhere all paper layers and a Power Tab was used to attach the button.
My final card used some of the softer feminine elements from the Follow Your Heart-Be Amazing collection.  I added a little distressing to the edges of the print and solid panels and added a bit of Scattered Straw Distress ink to create a shabby chic look.  The image was stamped with Adirondack Espresso ink and shading was added with the Scattered Straw ink and a sponge dauber.  I used Tombow Mono Dots Roller to adhere all of the flat cardstock panels.  Tombow Mono Multi was used to adhere the ribbon to the card base.  Tombow Foam Tabs were used to pop up the image panel and finally a Power Tab was used to adhere the button and ribbon to the card.

Thank you My Mind’s Eye for your generosity!

This week we are hopping with My Mind’s Eye and I have to say that they spoiled us rotten!! Getting a box of their products made my day!!  I received products of Miss Caroline and Bright and On The Bright Side Collections and I was blown away by all the colors and patterns!!

Since these photos don’t have much color, my palette was inspired in the third picture and the color of the stamps.  I kept using the woods with the crackled paint and the chevrons. I started by choosing the patterned paper for the big rectangles. I didn’t use the same arrangement in both pages because the blue would be too predominant. In the left the blue goes in front of the gray stripe and the yellow goes behind the gray, in the right page is the opposite. This technique helps to keep a balanced layout so your eye flows through both pages. I layered all the pieces with black to make them stand out. For the  photo mats I used the 6×6 pads and I also layered them with black using my Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive . The pennants connected by the My Mind’s Eye  Twine are from the Accessory Sheets and I used the Tombow Foam Tabs with them. I also used other punch out from the accessory sheet, with some stickers, brads and pins.

For the tiny pennants I used scraps and the Epiphany Crafts Tool and I used the Mono Multi Liquid Glue to attach them to the page. For attaching buttons I used Tombow Power Tabs, I learned this trick from Design Team Member Melissa. I outlined some elements to make them stand out, including the photos and the pages.

Thanks So Much to My Mind’s Eye!! Their products work in perfect harmony with Tombow!! I can’t wait to use both again!!

I hope you liked my double page!!

CREATIVITY GALORE!

My Mind’s Eye has always been a favorite of mine…the company is always coming out with great products and designs. their collections are fabulous to work with, and this one was no exception. “Follow Your Heart” has a touch of vintage and whimsy, and it was so unlike my normal choice of patterns. there was so much of it i knew whatever project i did had to use as much as i possibly could!

i was intrigued and i hatched a plan…it took me a while to get the idea out of my head, but in the end, it turned out better than i hoped.

i saw this idea (yes, yes, i spend too much time checking out other blogs and pinterest!) but this ideas was to keep a stash of index cards and each day, or as often as possible, take the time at the end of the day to write your thoughts about the day, things that happened, funnies, tragedies, what have you. a journal, without using a bound book.

i created this box to hold these index cards and perhaps some pictures along the way. i titled the box 2013/365. which means that i’m saving it for 2013 (yes, i’m crazy! but i’m already doing something else to document 2012) and that i’ll attempt to do it for a full year. the dividers i created are blank, and more than likely i’ll do some scrapbooking on them. but putting them together was easy, and they look classy. i attribute that to the paper line!

using the 6×6 stack i trimmed them down to fit inside the box – 3×6. then i made them sturdier by backing them to each other with Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue. then using a circle punch i created tabs for the top of the dividers by folding them in half and gluing them down with the MONO Aqua.

inside the box is a quote, decorated with the very vintage mini chipboard banners. and the outside of the box buttons and paper were layered with Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue. and the metal paper clip was held down with an ultra sticky Power Tab.

i used Tombow MONO Permanent Adhesive Runner to put paper to paper and a Dual Brush Pen to help ink up some of the edges on the paper.

so yes, now i am officially crazy, but i am officially ready for 2013. but you don’t have to wait that long. create a box and start today. document your life!

These containers – I call them ‘Column Twist Containers’ are so easy to make and they don’t require a template – just a rectangle piece of decorative paper! The paper is the ‘Miss Caroline’ collection from My Mind’s Eye. Embellishing is a breeze using the new Tombow Tags and matching brads and stickers from the ‘Miss Caroline’ collection.

Cut the paper into a 6″ x 8″ panel (container), a 2″ x 4″ panel (bottom flap), and 3″ x 4″ panel (top flap). Fold the flap pieces in half lengthwise and trim the bottom corners round.

Create the container by applying the Permanent Adhesive Stamp Runner to the 6″ edge. I used a very tiny amount of the MONO Multi Liquid Glue along the edge to make sure it holds down firmly – this is important if using heavier paper to make these containers. Roll the paper into a cylinder and press down with a bone folder.

Pinch the bottom of the cylinder and adhere on the bottom flap. Pinch the top of the container and adhere the back of the remaining flap to the top of the container. Add the Fastener Tab to the front flap to hold the container closed. Use Power Tabs and Foam Tabs to add the embellishments.

Here are the dimensions for the larger container and tall container:          Large Column Twist Container: 6″ x 12″ panel (container), 2″ x 6″ panel (bottom flap) and a 3″ x 6″ panel (top flap)

Tall Column Twist Container: 7″ x 9″ panel (container), 3.25″ x 2″ panel (bottom flap) and a 3.25″ x 3″ panel (top flap)

Have fun with these – make lots! Visit us again for lots more Tipniques with Tombow products! Now, hop on over to My Mind Eye and see what they’re doing. http://mymindseye.typepad.com/
