HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Happy New Year from Tombow!
Just a little reminder on how great the Dual point pens are for lettering!
This three-color method uses the lightest color first; 623 Purple Sage, then the medium shade 452 Process Blue and then the darker 555 Ultramarine.
Use the brush point for the thick lettering and the fine point for the thin lettering. Using a mixture of letter widths, both bold and light, make an interesting and aesthetic composition.
MONO Multi liquid glue was applied using the fine point to the dark part of the letters and then sprinkled with ultra-fine transparent glitter.
I also used the same Dual Brush Pens to color these Zentangle inspired snowflakes that will be scattered on the table during our New Years Brunch.
I started with chipboard snowflakes and painted them white with acrylic paint. I used the MONO Repositionable Adhesive to hold them onto a piece of paper while painting to make it easier. The adhesive was applied to the paper, leaving no sticky residue on the back of the snowflakes when finished. The tangles were drawn with a permanent black pen and then colored with the Dual Brush Pens.
Draw and create and make good cheer, let’s make it last throughout the year!
This week we are sharing projects fo the New Year with you. I try hard not to make too many New Year’s resolutions as it seems they don’t happen. Ü But I like to try to get more organized.
Here is a fun way to have your most used items at your fingertips. First I spray painted the wood white where it would show (didn’t where the paper covered up.
I used Tombow products to help make this altered wood chest of drawers. I had some old Mod Podge that was gunky and needed to get this done. I turned to Tombow’s Mono Liquid Aqua Glue and LOVE the results!!
I used a dampened foam brush to spread the liquid glue evenly over each side as I added the papers. It is important to use a dampened foam brush so it doesn’t absorb all the glue. Also makes spreading much smoother and easier.
sorry for the bad picture here, but it was the only one I had of the side view
I used the same papers inside the drawers as what is on front. After letting it dry for 2 hours, I brushed another layer over the top to seal the papers.

the flower on top is attached with a glue gun.
Thanks for looking,
my goal for 2011 – get my life organized! or at least the paperwork that accompanies it!
during this upcoming year I will finish up a master’s degree in elementary education and in doing so complete 4 classes and 3 months of student teaching, send my daughter to kindergarten and my son to second grade, complete roughly 36+ assignments for Tombow, teach my pre-kindergarten class (the other 7 months I’m not student teaching), teach the 12&13 year old girls at church, and attempt to keep my house clean, pay bills and deal with paperwork, and help my kids with homework and their activities. i am sure your lists look like this and may even have more on them. so i needed a way to keep track of the piles of paper that come with all of this.
i had heard of a “system” for getting what you needed accomplished each day and decided to give it a try. i made a series of cards. each card has a tab on the top, and each tab is labeled…. 12 months, 31 days, each member of the family, coupons, things to file…. i used Tombow MONO Multi to attach the tabs.
as papers come in, and things need to be done, they get filed behind the month and “day” that they need to be done by. theoretically each day i sit down with my basket and cards and complete the tasks behind that “number” and then move the number behind the next month’s tab.
tidbit of advice before you start
1. choose and measure your basket before cutting your cards
2. choose a basket that is deep enough to hold you’re your papers when they are standing up vertically
3. or choose a basket that is long enough for the papers to be filed horizontally
4. lay out the cards fanned out, so when gluing the tabs on they can be staggered, so they don’t end up blocking each other
** light bulb moment **
please excuse this interruption, but as i sit here typing this post i had an idea that i must share…
on each month card use Tombow MONO Powerbond to glue an additional piece of paper on the front. on this paper write or type the birthdays and anniversaries that month, or for the upcoming month. purchase your cards or make a note to pick up a gift and stash it behind the day that it should be completed by. the month cards stay in front of all the numbered cards for the whole month, completely visible and a great reminder of those special days. sorry i don’t have a picture of this…truly, i just thought of it and i don’t have time to finish it and photograph it before this post gets to you.
okay, back to my regularly scheduled post….
so here’s to a new year! may 2011 be organized and clutter free!
p.s. my other goals are to organize all my recipes and medicine cabinets!
Bulky pens are hard to write with and even more uncomfortable to hold. Taking notes during a meeting or writing in your journal should not be uncomfortable and leave you with a hand cramp.

The award-winning slim design of the ZOOM pens is the perfect accessory for a checkbook, personal organizer or journal. Available in multiple colors such as silver, black and red with push button action and twist action styles, there is a ZOOM Ballpoint pen for everyone.

In January, when I ended up getting bronchial pneumonia and had to do 8 days of out patient IV infusions. I wanted to make a little something to say thank you to the nurse that was on staff those days.
We got to know each other those days and one thing she mentioned was that her hands get so dry due to our cold winter weather as well using so many alcohol wipes every day.
I love this box that was designed by Lauren Meader. I used bright fun colors of glittered patterned paper. I used Tombow’s Mono Adhesive Power Bond to put the box together and Mono Adhesive Permanent to add the patterned papers to the box.
In the box I added a tube of lotion, chapstick and a fun little bottle (from Hobby Lobby) of M & M’s that I sorted the colors out to match the paper. Ü
i wanted to create a simple yet meaningful ornament for my parents and in-laws, and what grandparent doesn’t enjoy pictures of their grandchildren?
using a maya road chipboard set i traced and cut christmas paper and a photograph of my family to put on the chipboard shape. using Tombow MONO Multi I adhered both to the chipboard, being sure to get to the very edge to keep them from getting bent back. with a foam brush i painted the pattern paper side with a thin layer of Tombow MONO Aqua so i could shake diamond dust over the top. (diamond dust is a clear chunky glitter…i’ve had mine forever. i wonder if they make it anymore?) the final effect was shimmery, as the diamond dust caught the light. lastly i used Tombow’s White Gel Pen to write the year on the photograph, then adhered button eyes to both sides with the Tombow MONO Multi. it is now hanging on my christmas, sparkling with the lights.
I always seem to have plenty of envelopes lying around – this technique converts them into great gift cards with a side pocket ready to fill with theater tickets, money or photos. It works with all types and sizes of envelopes. You can choose to put the pocket on either side.
To create the pocket card from an envelope:
- Fold the envelope in half
- Cut out a ‘V’ notch in the top flap, in the center
- Use MONO Adhesive Permanent and adhere down the left flap
- Trim the top right flap and the side flap as shown
- Adhere down the flaps on the right side using MONO Adhesive Permanent
Homemade crafts always make the perfect gift for the holidays. Whether the present is homemade or it is just a personalized hang tag, a little creative, personalized flair will make it a memorable gift for a friend or family member of any age.
As something that will be heavily handled you want to make sure that all of the details are secure. Create professional and durable holiday gift tags using the MONO Aqua Liquid Glue Adhesive.
The MONO Aqua Liquid Adhesive has dual applicators in one ergonomic dispenser and a pen tip for small areas or a fine line of glue and a broad tip for large areas. The strong permanent bond goes on clear and dries clear, making it ideal for photos, cardstock, fibers or buttons. Acid-free and non-toxic, this adhesive is perfect for any project.
