ornament …check!
i wanted to create a simple yet meaningful ornament for my parents and in-laws, and what grandparent doesn’t enjoy pictures of their grandchildren?
using a maya road chipboard set i traced and cut christmas paper and a photograph of my family to put on the chipboard shape. using Tombow MONO Multi I adhered both to the chipboard, being sure to get to the very edge to keep them from getting bent back. with a foam brush i painted the pattern paper side with a thin layer of Tombow MONO Aqua so i could shake diamond dust over the top. (diamond dust is a clear chunky glitter…i’ve had mine forever. i wonder if they make it anymore?) the final effect was shimmery, as the diamond dust caught the light. lastly i used Tombow’s White Gel Pen to write the year on the photograph, then adhered button eyes to both sides with the Tombow MONO Multi. it is now hanging on my christmas, sparkling with the lights.
in my short lifetime I have held over 18 jobs…not counting daughter, sister, wife and mother. i have been working since i was 11 years old, when my first job was a “page” in the public library. since then i have been a babysitter/nanny, telephone operator, sandwich maker, a retailer of clothes, books, vidoes and scrapbook supplies, and a teacher to children and adults. quite a variety.
when i first got this “suitcase” mini-album from clear scraps i immediately knew that the subject i wanted for the book had to be something other than travel. trying to think of other ideas i used my best sounding boards….and with their help we came up with an album about all my jobs.
over the last year the companies we have teamed up with have been incredibly generous with what they have sent. i was able to go back through my stash and pull out papers and embellishments that pulled this album together…..basic grey, graphic 45, maya road, cosmo cricket, and hambly screen prints
the best thing about this album is that i am using random pictures that i’ve been holding onto for years. none of my jobs have been documented with pictures, not even my scrapbooking jobs. so a random picture here or there, or a company logo is all i have taken with me. this book will be a place to write the memories and experiences i had while at those jobs. could be a good laugh years from now.
while working with this clear album i have come up with some tips to keep in mind, because there are challenges as well as rewards to working with clear.
1. definitely use Tombow MONO Vellum Adhesive. the most you’ll see is a shimmer…but it really is invisible.
2. apply the adhesive to the picture, paper or embellishment instead of the clear pages. easier to apply…and go slow, the more even the coverage, the less “goobers” will occur.
3. take care when placing your pictures and paper…once it is down, it is down!
4. Tombow MONO Glue Pen will adhere embellishments to the clear acrylic
5. take advantage of layers
6. clear album pages are a double sided paper’s best friend…you get to show off both sides! no choosing or leaving one side out!
To create this fun wall hanging, I used a “page” from Maya Road’s Wavy Layer Chipboard Book. I painted the front and back a creamy white color then sponged the edges with permanent brown ink. I hand cut a piece of Basic Grey patterned paper from their Porcelain line, sponged the edges with chocolate ink, machine stitched around the edges and adhered with Tombow’s Mono Adhesive Power Bond.
I used Tombow’s Mono Aqua Liquid Glue to adhere brown glitter to Maya Road’s David Chipboard Alphabet. I used the Mono Aqua Liquid Glue to adhere the letters to the wallhanging.
The flower is made by stamping several scallop circles, wadding them up in a ball
and then flattening them back out.
I made two holes with my piercer and threaded the vintage button with crochet thread for strength and knotted to the back.
I then spritzed the flower very lightly with water and one layer at a time started scrunching the flower up around the button. After the flower was completely dry, I brushed the edges with brown ink and ahdered the flower with the liquid glue.
I added a ribbon hanger with Maya Road’s Pink Sophisticate Striped Ribbon.
This month Tombow is featuring their wonderful Dual Brush Tip markers. I colored Maya Road’s chipboard letters with four of the markers (see supply list for colors I used) using the brush tip end. Then for the inside of the card I hand wrote “missing” with the pen tip end.
Tombow’s Mono Multi Liquid Glue is perfect for adhered the jewel flowers (also Maya Road) as well as the letters to my card.
supplies: Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue, Dual Brush Pens #873 (peach), #743 (pink), #452 (turquoise), #192 (green); Maya Road Clear Jewel Flowers, David Chipboard Alphabet; Making Memories Paperie Poolside patterned paper, EKSuccess scallop punch
one thing i love about maya road are their chipboard albums. they are extremely versatile and fun to use, not only as albums, but also as other altered projects. for the tots project this week i used this large flower album. it had six “pages” with a pre-punched hole. i chose not to use it as an album, but as a decoration in my daughter’s room.
my little girl loves to paint, so i turned over some purple acrylic paint and a paint brush and she thoroughly enjoyed herself. even my son came in from playing baseball to help her out (secretly he loves painting too!)
once we painted both sides and let them dry i let her use the Tombow MONO Glue Pen to adhere small white clips.
i hung the new flower “clipboards” on the wall in her room. now she can add art work or pictures to decorate with.
to step the end result up a little (maybe more for the adult than the tot) i took the liberty of adding a few embellishments and some pattern paper to a couple of the flowers. too many pretty purple papers…i couldn’t not use them!
