getting ready….by sarah little
ready for what??? the holidays! my husband and i are trying to do “organized christmas” this year; to have everything cleaned, decorated, bought and prepared for by the first week in december. it is ambitious, but i’m excited about having a plan! a plan is good… being prepared is good…
anyone around last year remember the shopping organizer i put together? here’s the link- HOLIDAY SHOPPING ORGANIZE
i followed my own directions and made one for this year. only instead of just listing my shopping lists and stores, i’m using it for checklists for “organized christmas” as well.
(5-6) double sided pattern papers
white cardstock (to make tags for the pockets)
coordinating stickers, die cuts, etc.
letter stickers or rub-ons
Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Adhesive
Tombow MONO Powerbond
Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue
directions:
1. cut (2) 12X12 pattern papers to 12×8
score each page two times, at 4″ and 8″, creating three panels/sections which can be folded accordion style

2. using Tombow MONO Adhesive Power Bond adhere the two pages together by overlapping two of the panels
3. create several more “panels” – 4″x9″ and again using MONO Multi or Power Bond to put them over the accordion folded panels. i attempted to have every “page” have a different pattern.
5. use a corner rounder on all corners
6. cut cardstock 3″x4″ to use for pockets, and round two of the corners
using Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue, put glue on three sides of the cardstock- the bottom and two side to create the pockets
7. cut white cardstock to create tags (as many as you need) there could be a possible 10 pockets if every panel is used, or 8 pockets with a front and back cover
apply tabs to the top of each tab. i used these office supply tabs, but have also used pre-cut journaling spots and punched shapes glued to the top with MONO Aqua Liquid Glue

8. make a belly band cut a cardstock strip 2″x12″, wrap it around the folded-up organizer
use Tombow MONO Adhesive Power Bond to keep the strip together

8. decorate the front of the belly band

november is going to be a busy month! but i’ll be ready with this handy organizer in my bag!

first, a translation, h.m.b = home management binder and a.b.c.= anything but a card challenge ………. so let’s get to it!
i don’t just use my adhesives and paper trimmer to craft and scrapbook….or maybe it is that i use them for everything INCLUDING scrapbooking…whichever way it is, my Tombow adhesives, my paper trimmer and some cardstock can take care of any project that i need to do, crafts and everything else.
so i put together a home management binder. i needed an easily accessible place to keep all my calendars, ideas, to do’s and finances, etc. i did some searching around, talked to a few friends, and assessed the paper-clutter situation in my home to best determine how to organize it. a binder seems to be an easy way…add a few tabs and some pockets and viola…accessibility and ease to calendars, phone numbers, and to do lists.
i used Tombow MONO Adhesive Dots Roller to add the strips of cardstock onto each divider page and Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue to put the scallop tags on. to reinforce the tags i doubled them up. held together with the wet Aqua makes them pretty sturdy for paper tags. i added several pockets and used the Aqua for that as well. some are on the backside of the divider pages and on the front of one, i made smaller pockets to hold business cards.
i had some chipboard letters/numbers to use for labeling the front and the side of the binder, but they were too bulky under the plastic lining. so i peeled off a layer of the chipboard to make them thinner and then used more Aqua (loving this stuff today!) to glue them on.

there is more work to do to add in the categories that will work best for me, but i enjoy the crafty- work-in-progress of it all!

it’s my favorite time of the month! blog hop time. i have really enjoyed working with the “OCT 31″ line by Fancy Pants.
the line has so many enchanting papers, easy to use stickers and fun embellishments. i should have taken a picture of all of it before i started working, but i didn’t (too eager to get to work!)
so instead, this time i am entertaining you with a picture of “after”…what i was left with. it may look like a lot, until you see what i started with! and here is a link to everything that is included in this line from Fancy Pants. ( i had MOST of it!)
from my first glance at the papers in this collection i knew that they would be perfect for this COMING halloween, since my daughter is dressing as a witch. i’ve been working a halloween or two in the past each year and i’ve never been concerned with matching costumes to the paper used for the memory keeping, but it was the perfect choice for this year.
i began with a 2 page layout, using quite a bit of product without making it feel overwhelming or busy. i used Tombow MONO Adhesive Permanent. i left lots of room for pictures to document our costume choices for this year.
once that was finished I started work on a a small album where I could keep pictures of all the events of the holiday – Trunk-or-Treat at church, Trick-or-Treating on Halloween, classroom parties, pumpkin carving, and our own Halloween party. i needed a standard size, so i made mats for pictures that would be printed wallet size. This way I can fit many pictures on a page, even though the page is only 6×12.
for this album i used Tombow MONO Adhesive Permanent for all the paper embellishments and mats, and i used Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Adhesive to adhere the background papers to the chipboard album pages. (album by pink paislee).
to create the album i spread the pages out…and then all around i laid out the sticker sheets, chipboard stickers, die cuts and paper scraps from previously cut sheets, and worked on one set of pages at a time. first i added some photo mats, then i would scour through all the goodies to find embellishments that complimented each other and helped pull the page together.
title page
filler pages
back page
there is plenty of room to add more pictures if needed, and room to add journaling. two things to keep in mind when pre-making an album.
so in my goal to use as much as i could and i managed a double page layout, a 10 page mini album, and a huge sense of accomplishment…Halloween memories are ready to be made!

i love quotes. they are inspirational, motivational little tid bits to get you through the day. maybe to be reflective, maybe to make you laugh, but always something you need to hear.
i wanted something front and center that i would see everyday, so i made a little frame to set by the mirror. i used some of my favorite paper and stickers from October Afternoon’s Seaside collection, as well as a 6×6 frame, a metal clip and Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Adhesive and Tombow MONO Permanent Adhesive Roller.
I cut the background paper to 6×6 and then layered paper and stickers using the Permanent Adhesive Roller.
Then I slid it back into the frame, under the glass and used the Multi to secure a clip to the front, on top of the glass. It will take a while to set, but by golly it sticks!
So when it comes to adding a quote, you can use a permanent or dry erase marker directly on the glass…
or use the clip to hold a quote torn from a magazine or printed from the computer.
Just a little pick me up each morning…and appropriately, the first quote that i want to clip up is:
Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the floor each morning the Devil says “Oh crap, she’s up.” (apologies for lack of credit, as i do not know who originally said it…)
i’m trying to be that woman!

a virtual bulletin board where you can “pin” all the things you want to buy; “pin” all the recipes you want to try; and “pin” all the wonderful craft ideas you want to make. when you find it on a blog, or online shopping site, or a website you save it so you can find it when you need it. well, i’ve had this idea pinned for a while and finally decided to make them. COASTERS from TILES! yes, and it is super easy. you will need a few supplies though, so grab a pencil jot down the few things you’ll need and let’s get to work. since this week we are talking about “PARTIES!” i thought i’d add a little twist to the coaster. we are going to personalize them! who wouldn’t want to go home from a party or get-together with a personalized gift from their hostess?!?
* ceramic tiles (i used 4×4) from home improvement store/hardware store
* felt or cork – for underside of tile
* paint brush
* Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue
* Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue
* spray sealant
* something to decorate the top of the tile – pattern paper, photos, stamps & staz-on ink -so many possibilities!
so my coasters are christmas themed (gearing up for that holiday season…)
1. i used Tombow MONO Multi to adhere a 4×4 piece of christmas themed pattern paper to a ceramic tile. i put the glue on the tile using the broad tip applicator and then smoothed the piece of paper over it. be sure to secure all the edges down.
2. set aside to dry and move onto the next one.
3. when you finish adding the paper to the front of the tiles, this would be the point where you would personalize the tiles using a stamp (i did monograms) and staz-on ink
4. go back to the first tiles that should be dry now. use a small amount of Tombow MONO Aqua and squiggle a few lines of glue over the top of the pattern paper and the stamped image. use a paint brush to spread the glue around.
5. work with the edges and smooth them down. there will be a little bubbling, but as the glue drys most of the bubbles settle out.
the thicker the paper the fewer bubbles! photos do not tend to bubble at all when printed on photo paper.
6. set these aside to dry and wash your brush out
7. when dry, should be 10-15 minutes, take the tiles outside or to a ventilated area and spray with the sealant.
you need the sealant to keep the coasters protected. as condensation from glasses/cups touches an un-sealed coaster it will become sticky, as the MONO Aqua Liquid Glue is water-based.
8. allow these to dry.
9. cut felt or cork to fit the bottom of the tile and adhere with Tombow MONO Multi.
10. then use them at your party, each person gets their own coaster…and then they get to take it home!
so? are you going to try it? i hope these directions work for you as well as they did for me. drop me a line if you have any questions!
and thank you pinterest for being a place to gather so many ideas…and thank you to the many crafters in the world that share your work with all of us!
p.s. yes, you can use M.P. for this project…but sometimes you just don’t have that white stuff around when you are feeling crafty. it is good to know that other glues will do the work just as well or even better.

little bits or little bites??? i guess that depends on what you dress up as this year for halloween.
but i have decided to take my halloween in little….well, in small amounts. i take so many pictures that layouts are not an option to show all the fun that we have on halloween. i started creating an album each year. some years i can make them ahead of time and add the pictures after the holiday. and others i am playing catch-up on. several companies have kits that you can use to make it easy. all coordinated and ready to assemble. i did that with this album from little yellow bicycle…
but even still i had too many pictures i wanted to use. i couldn’t narrow it down anymore; i had to keep them. so i glued several photos together – two at a time, back to back. i used Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue. i used it sparingly as it is a water-based glue and too much can warp your pictures. however, i carefully applied a thin line around the outside edges and a few squiggles towards the middle. this holds the pictures securely and gives it more stability. with that done i was able to punch holes in them and add them into the mini album as their own page.
a tip- if you put together an album before you have pictures for it, leave space for a standard size picture. a picture can always be cut down…i do 4×6′s and 2×3′s (a wallet size).
do you have your costumes picked out yet? how about a way to preserve those memories? are you set to take tons of pictures? i am, and i’m putting together this year’s mini-album now….don’t worry, you’ll get to see it in a few weeks!

it’s always good to give yourself a challenge. in my “anything but a card” challenge i created a layout. yup. love the feeling of completing a layout. i have so many pictures that i want to scrapbook, but sometimes i just need a PUSH to get them done. give yourself a challenge, see what you can accomplish.
this layout has pictures from a Braves game my son and i went to last september. i was the “coolest mom”! it was a date, and he was spoiled…i admit it. with the pattern papers it ended up busier than i normally do, but that was part of my challenge too.
the “paper ribbon” looking strips were punched with border punches and then adhered down with Tombow MONO Adhesive Dots. this is the best adhesive for this kind of embellishment, because you can always rub off the excess adhesive. love my dots!

i have read this book so many times…
to my kids, to my pre-kindergarten class…
children need to know they are loved, and this book gives so many wonderful examples of personalities, quirks and traits that parents love about their children.
each time i read it I knew that i had to make a scrapbook project based on this book. our challenge this week to create something based on a book pushed me to get it started.
i created a microsoft word document with the words from the book. there are two quotes to a page in two columns, and can easily be printed and cut in half vertically and/or horizontally to create the pages of the book. be sure to print a test page and adjust the wording once you choose what font you want.
(my book came out to be 4 ¼ x 4 ¾ because I didn’t print a test page. i’m making the mistakes so you don’t have too : } )
i wanted a gated album, so i used a piece of chipboard for the back and punched holes on either sides of the quote pages. i used my “cinch” binding tool from We R Memory Keepers to punch the holes and add the wire binding.)
then came the fun task of decorating it. this was a perfect project to use the wide array of Tombow adhesives available. I used Tombow MONO Multi to add pattern paper to the back cover, and Tombow MONO Adhesive Clear to add the “S” and “C” to the Hambly Screen Print/Transparency front cover. I used Tombow Power Bond to add the pictures and Tombow MONO Aqua for the embellishments. i used the strongest stuff, as i anticipate these albums will be looked at a lot. (Paper is from October Afternoon’s “Cherry Hill” and “Fly A Kite” collections)
here is the front cover before i put it together. i used the Dual Brush Pen to ink the edges of the letters, then attached them to the back side of the transparency.
a trick to using the MONO Adhesive Clear is to keep the application of the adhesive smooth. i use a surface i know i can rub the adhesive off of…and i’ll run the adhesive off the edge of the paper. that way it stays smooth and virtually invisible when it is used on the transparency.
i also like to do that when i have a tiny piece to add. take a look at this cherry stem. used the permanent adhesive runner on it and purposefully went off the edge. then i have full coverage and i’m not worried about the shape not sticking.
here are some of the other pages from the album.
did I mention i got a little ambitious and made one for each of my kids, that way it is personal and they don’t fight over it. i divided up the quotes from the story, about half for each book. however I made sure that when the quotes were divided i kept the rhyming ones together (it will make more sense when you read through the quotes listed on the microsoft word document). i also made sure the first two and the last two quotes appeared in each book.
i managed to use lots of my favorite “random” pictures from the last few months.
what book has moved you to create a project about it? let us know! we’d love to see your work!
if you read through to the end…. your reward is the word document (i hope…fingers crossed it links! email me at dolizah at hotmail dot com with “you are my i love you” in the subject line and i’ll send you the document).

every year it comes and goes and i miss it! but not this year! i’m prepared. GRANDPARENTS DAY!
i’ve created a card using mostly scrap size pieces of paper, some adhesive (of course!) and a few buttons…oh a corner rounder and a paper trimmer. want to try it out?
gather your supplies.
the base for the card is a single piece of cardstock (kraft colored) that measured 5 1/2 x 4. the piece of patterned paper was 3 x 4, and the small scrap of cardstock (red) was 1 x 4.
start by rounding the corners on the base piece and the pattern piece. then score down the middle of the scrap cardstock.
using Tombow MONO Adhesive Powerbond apply a strip down either side of the scored line on the 1 x 4 piece of cardstock. then adhere the pattern piece to one side, and secure the other side to the base piece of cardstock.
this is now the cover of the card.
add letter stickers, printed quotes and embellishments to the front of the card. the buttons were added with Tombow MONO Aqua Liquid Glue.
add a handwritten or printed sentiment inside. the white piece of cardstock measures approx. 3 x 3 – which fits just inside the flap, so it isn’t seen when the card is closed.
so, while you still have time why don’t you get a few cards done too! remember, there are grandparents all around us! they all deserve a little recognition on this special day.

we’ve had this conversation before…
you start a project, you have a vision in mind….and the end result is totally unexpected!
such is true of my “surprise” layout today. i had a picture clipped from an old Creating Keepsakes magazine and loved the idea of a fold out for lots of similar pictures.
over the last few days i’ve come across several of my son’s baseball wallet-sized pictures. i wanted a place to keep all of them together, so i started on a little fold-out book.
then i put it on an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of cardstock with a typed note, but then i found a few more pictures that went along with my note… but then i ran out of room on the smaller paper, so i put the 12 x12 red behind it.
the whole thing kind of evolved, cutting slits behind the journaling to add a strip of baseball pattern paper and a baseball die-cut, adding stars with numbers to label the seasons in the fold-out book.
sometimes it just happens that way.
i used Tombow MONO Permanent Adhesive Runner on the pictures and the paper. except for the stars, which i used Tombow MONO Aqua. i love using the aqua when i have “paper piecing/small bits” to stick down. and lastly, i used Tombow MONO Adhesive Powerbond on the booklet – to adhere the back fold to the scrapbook layout.
here are some pictures of the details…
well…what are you waiting for? go get crafting, and surprise yourself with what you can create! and i’m off to find the rest of those pictures!
