so we need a way to keep up with birthdays and anniversaries and holidays?

in this post here, i showed how i organized my bills and upcoming events. i even mentioned an idea about putting a list of events for the month on each tab.
well i did it! used microsoft word and text boxes to create a document that i can change as needed. printed and trimmed them up, and adhered it to the front of the card with Tombow MONO Dot Adhesive Runner. this way i can peel it off a little easier if i need to change something.  i can look to the month coming up, see what cards i need and then make them and stash them behind the “number” for the appropriate send off date. a quick help would be to keep envelopes and stamps in the front of the basket, or behind their own special divider. then come bill or card, you’ll have all you need handy to send it off!

for years i have said i would love to have a stash of cards that i make ahead of time, so when the need arises, i can quickly grab one and i’d be done. but i have not accomplished that goal yet. i do have some cards that i go through, some store bought and some hand-made. but inevitably, i end up making one for the occasion. kind of a mood thing for me.

but here is what my file looks like. maybe it’ll work for you…?

p.s. january is the busiest month! if i don’t have it together, i’m behind before the year even gets going!

i’ve seen these itty bitty card classes advertised by the archiver’s stores and i just had to make some myself.

sometimes it is just fun to sit with some scrap cardstock, super fun pattern papers and embellishments (like these from october afternoon’s farm fresh line), and put together some quick and easy cards using my favorite adhesive dot runner. they don’t have to be elaborate or have a ton of stuff on them. heartfelt and personal make more of a statement when the recipient opens that envelope….speaking of which….now that i’ve got these itty bitty cards, i need to find some envelopes to put them in. sometimes my thinking is all backwards. either way, they sure were easy to make, and i love the itty bitty size.

quick tip – i LOVE using brads, but sometimes i want my paper to lay flat, and sometimes i decide i want to use the brad after i have stuck the paper down. an easy way to still use those brads is to cut off the prongs on the back. most brads will trim up easily with regular scissors. then use the Tombow MONO Multi, “a dot, not alot” and place the brad head (sans prongs) on top of the dot. viola! looks like a brad! (check out the front of the “i love you” card, the brad appears to be holding the tag on.)

Joanna challenged the DT to a different kind of inspiration challenge. She sent a picture to one member and they made an item from it using it as their inspiration. Then sent that project picture to the next member and she created a project from it and etc. Go to Tombow’s blog to see all the inspriation.

Here is the project created by April that I was sent for my inspiration project.

The inspiration I pulled from her bookmark, was the Basic Grey paper, the long shape of the project (I altered a toilet paper tube), I used a lacy scallop punch for inspiration from the fringe and a flower for the oval.

I hope you all were inspired.

“tangle” supplies;

Tombow MONO Adhesive Dots , Tomobw Dual Brush Pen – N15 black , Tomow White Gel Pen

the idea of the “ZENTANGLE” is interesting to me. all those doodles in
the notebooks of my college classes actually have a name now! well, unfortunately i am
not much of a doodler now, but i took inspiration from the zentangle
and put it toward my scrapbooking.

this layout was inspired by the doodling now called zentangle. Both the pattern paper blocks on the page and the title were a result of the research i have done concerning zentangle. the result is a fun technique that fits my style.  i’m coining my own phrase and calling it a “scrap-tangle”!

using coordinating pattern papers (all of mine came from OCTOBER AFTERNOON’s recess line) i cut (mostly) straight lines from one of the pattern papers. then using the other coordinating patterns i filled in a 4″ square piece of white cardstock. the final result is similar to the different doodling one might do with they were creating their own zentangle.

*tips* (because i tried this three different ways)

*you can doodle a zentangle first.
i took my 4″ square piece of white cardstock and drew directly on it first.
then using a piece of vellum i laid it over the design and traced it.
next i flipped the piece of vellum over onto the pattern paper i wanted to use and re-traced the lines on the back side of the vellum.
this will transfer the lead from the front side of the vellum to the pattern paper.
now you have a guide to cut out your shapes out of patterned paper.
a suggestion with this method – number each piece that is traced on the vellum AND on the pattern paper. so when all of your pieces are cut out you can fit it together like a puzzle with a pattern.

*another way to do this is to use scraps pieced together

generously apply adhesive to the background you want to use, again mine was the 4″ square, and then apply pattern paper. i used the Tombow MONO dot runner, as it is a little more forgiving if the pieces need to be adjusted.
then after laying down the background pieces i covered the seams, where the pattern papers came together, with the bold strips.

*keep all of your “bold” strips the same pattern paper. it will keep a cohesive feel to the final piece.

*try to make your bold lines wavy, not always straight

*use your Tombow Dual Brush Markers and ink the edges of the pieces being put together. it makes the “scrapped zentangle” have more definition.

“scrap-tangle”!

Ever heard of it? I had never heard the word til the end of last month when Joanna with Tombow challenged us to create a project with this technique. Basically it’s a fancy word for doodling, but with more detail. You can read more about it here.

I found some tutorials on YouTube and someone had doodled a paisley, so I went with that.

This month Tombow is also partnering with Basic Grey (I know!!! One of my all time favorite paper companies!!) and I rec’d a lovely Cappella packet. So very vintage and lovely!

For this card I used their paper, brads and some lovely vintage lace from my stash that matched perfectly! To keep with the scallop and circle theme in my “zentangle” drawing, I punched one edge of BG paper with an eyelet scallop punch.

 Here is the inside:

I colored my image with Tombow’s markers and put the whole card together with Tombow’s Mono-Adhesive Dots. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.

I love this new Cappella paper by Basic Grey. I received this lovely package with papers, stickers and brads from this line. To me it is very vintage.

Tombow is highlighting their Mono White Gel Pen this month. I used this on both of my cards today.

For this first card, I stamped with a versamark ink pad on a Basic Grey black paper then pierced around the image and then “connected” the dots with the white gel pen. I love how it looks like chalk on a chalkboard. The brads are from another Basic Grey line.

The stamp set is a retired one by Stepping Stones. I used the two smallest flowers and a sentiment.

For this next card I went totally vintage! All the papers are from the Cappella line. The ribbon is from my vintage stash and the lace was white. I rubbed peach ink on it and then spritzed it and rubbed the ink into it more evenly. I love how it turned out!

The mini tag is from SU! from long ago that I still had.  I stamped the “for you” with my Karen Foster snap stamps. The pin is from last month’s Maya Road pkg. I wondered what I was going to do with those pins. They match the Cappella paper perfectly!

I used Tombow’s Mono White Gel Pen to make “eyelet” dots along the peach scallop border.

Both cards were put together with Tombow’s Mono Adhesive Dots.

i have to admit, i found graphic 45 at my local archiver’s and called joanna immediately. she got on their website while we were on the phone, and before our conversation was over she had contacted them to do a partnership….and here we are, less than a month later, creating with their gorgeous paper! we’re doing a graphic 45 partnership later this month and i was just too excited not go give you a little sneak peak so keep watching for this fun team-up.
there is so much that i want to do with it…but for my first project using graphic 45 i was loving the fact that i could mix and match several of their lines. i ended up using two sheets of paper from the botanicabella collection, one from times nouveau collection, and the tags from the communique collection. i added my journaling with tombow dual brush pens. i love that they have a brush tip and a fine pen tip so i have more flexibility in my work. my adhesive is my trusty MONO DOTS adhesive runner. one thing is for sure, graphic 45 is now on my list of companies to watch… remember to check back soon for this fun upcoming partnership.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and I have a fun project to share with you. I found this fun tutorial on Shannon’s blog.

I used fun papers from Cosmo Cricket’s Early Bird and The Boyfriend lines. These papers are perfect for a teacher gift. I used Tombow’s MONO Adhesive Dots, MONO Aqua Liquid Glue, MONO Glue Stick, and MONO Adhesive Power Bond.

Here is a tip for how I cut the curve for the carton closer flaps. I inserted my piece into an oval punch like shown below. Super easy!

For the ruffles on the chipboard circle, I just hand-sewed a running stitch along one edge of ribbon and then gathered up and knotted and placed behind the chipboard. I glued it with the MONO Liquid Aqua Glue.

This was so much fun to make that I think I will make some more. I filled these with paper clips, erasers that go on the end of pencils, and candy! Ü

This stamped calendar would make a nice gift for a favorite teacher. The cling stamps, mini hanger and calendar creative scraps are from Craft Secrets’ Heartwarming Vintage Collection.  The images are colored with the Dual Brush Pens and paper pieces adhered with MONO Adhesive DOTS. The calendar panels are held onto the main panel with two large brads. Each month can be slipped in easily and quickly. The extra month panels are kept in a small envelope at the back of the calendar panel. MONO MULTI Liquid Glue is used to glue down rhinestones to the crown and butterfly wings and is also used to add glitter to the wings. To handle tiny rhinestones easily, I like to make a small ‘sticky pick-up’ stick. Simply add a drop of MONO MULTI glue to the tip of a wooden skewer and let dry. When ready to place a rhinestone, add a tiny drop of glue and then pick up the rhinestone with the sticky pick-up stick and place perfectly. No more sticky fingers or rhinestones flipping over while placing on your projects!

Tombow and Pink Paislee are pairing up this week. Be sure to stop by the Tombow blog daily to see what projects the DT create using the Pink Paislee kit we received.

Altered Notebook

This is a fun little extra gift that is quick and easy to make that I will be adding to the graduation cards I make for the girls on my list. I used paper and diecuts from Pink Paislee’s 365 Degrees line and Tombow’s MONO Adhesive Dots. The notebooks are mini composition books that Alco stores carry. They measure 4 1/8″ x 5 7/8″. Perfect for sticking in your purse for list makers or to write down your dreams and goals.
